Is it correct that PTT is only avalible if the service provider allows it?
I know Orange allow it but I am with O2, anybody have any info on when this will be avalible.
Also how does it actually work. Is it always connected? Or do you have to login to a base station?
I also thought it was possible to use only via 2 or more linked phones but can not see how to set this up, was I wrong?
Thanks in advance for any insites given...

Yes, push-to-talk is only available if the operator offers it. It doesn't work directly from phone-to-phone without network support for the service.
It's just like a voice text message isn't it?
Not really. It is more like walkie-talkie; press a button to talk and all others listening in (in your push-to-talk "group"😉 will hear your voice immediately (more or less).
and if i send a message with more than one contact listed this is different because... Don't know about you but my text messages are received straight away.
Well, I suppose you could argue either way. 😉 I don't see comparable to text messaging, but more like a voice broadcast to specific people, or perhaps instant messaging with voice.
Sometimes text messages take seconds to get delivered, sometimes minutes, sometimes hours & there are situations where it might take days.
And when the recipients phone is off, text messages are not delivered, but stored at the operator and waiting for the recipients phone to be turned on.
This does not happen with push-to-talk; either what one person says is immediately heard, or not, but it is not saved for delivery when the recipient's phone is turned back on, if it was off when someone said something.
Anyway, you can think of it in which ever way you like. I don't mind.
I called O2 asking when they would be giving the PTT service to there customers and they had no set date.
