Help with Converting a Wav to Ring tone

7 replies · 2,630 views · Started 16 August 2005

Hi Gang,

i anybody here willing to help to convert a Wav file to a Ring tone that will work on the X ?

I received the WAV file from a friend, but I tried Quicktime with no success.

So if you are willing to help me, please PM.

THANKS!

For everyone else who reads this, the best settings are: 44khz 8bit pcm wav. If you already have a wav file that doesn't work, just use the windows sound recorder (yes, the sound recorder...) and save the file using above settings.

Just a warning to anyone who's not yet tried making their own ringtones. The sound is quite poor as it's only 8-bit. and you also get a much larger file than you'd expect for that quality, due to it being 44k PCM. The worst of both worlds, really.

???"The worst of both worlds"? Nope, that's not true. First of all, you'll only get a relatively large file if you make a 1-2 min. long ringtone, 15-30sec should be long enough. Second, at the first meeting with the Sendo crew here in NL, I was told that the simplest solution to the ringtone problem we experienced in the beginning, was just converting your mp3 to wav and then save it as 44khz 8bit pcm. You need the 44khz, otherwise you'd get the problem that it doesn't play the ringtone on an incoming call. And 8bit is really enough for a ringtone, so that did the trick for everyone. So in a ringtone case, I don't think it's the worst of both worlds.

thats the name of the program i use for converting to .wav..even managed to get 44hz 16bit to work as a ringtone! 2 negative things though, obviously the file weighs like crazy, plus the first 1-2 seconds of the ringtone are distorted.another thing..was bluffing to my friend with a 6630 that the speakers in the my phone were much more powerful than the one in his phone..was pretty embarrased when we compared :frown:

shaggy - i used helix mobile, but i am sure there are others that will do the same thing. just do a search from it.
