Since Im shortly due for an upgrade of this phone - can anyone tell me what I should be going for. The question is do I stick with Symbian or move over to Windows Mobile? I have looked around a bit and Im interested in Orange's SPV C550 or M500. I like Nokia, but their handsets seem a bulky at the moment.
The feature I like about the X:
Web browser - it seems pretty good on the X
Outlook - being able to sync it with the computer is great and saves a lot of time and hassle
Handysafe (add on application) I wouldnt be without it
MP3 player - slow but reasonable
SD card slot - essential, I dont want to have to buy any new size cards. I have a 1gb card and that is plenty for me
Being able to view Microsft apps - handy feature
Being able to check work emails - sad I know!
I also want to be able to run a sat nav system when I get round to buying the software. (I believe the C550 doesnt take TOM TOM 5 because of the screen size)
I liked the idea of the X, despite mine being rife with problems from the start. Some people on this forum know me because I have spent a lot of time complaining! Its seems the X was ahead of its time and wasnt properly developed. I dont see that the technology has come on leaps and bounds in the last year so the X was in many ways too technical for its own good!
Anyway my X has now died completely - the speaker doesnt seem to work anymore (any suggestions as to what it might be welcome). People just cant hear me when I can hear them. It rings OK and the sound comes out??
Any help would be much appreciated.

The bad news is that there's nothing in the marketplace which fits all your requirements - primarily because most phones now take miniSD or RS (DV) MMC cards.
Windows Mobile is getting much better than it was. I'd wait however for devices featuring Windows Mobile 2005 before getting one of those. (the C550 and M500 are both Windows 2003).
None of Nokia's handsets take SD cards anymore, they're all RS DV MMC cards (which are only available upto 512MB). However, their 6680 is probably the best smartphone on the market at the moment. (unless you go to the P910, but that's a bit outdated now)
As for the problem with your X, it sounds like the mic in your handset is not working - http://www.sendosmartphones.com has replacement, official, mics for sale which will fix that. (it only takes about 10 minutes to swap them)
Looks like I'll have to switch to mini SD cards then (BUGGER!)
Anyway - that site you posted for spares... they're bloody expensive!! If I wanted to get a new front and back cover, and top cover it would total 45! Anywhere cheaper?!
Also - how does Win Mobile compare to Symbian... am I gonna have to pay for lots of add on applications? The trouble with phones is that you dont get to fully test them before buying!
Cheers
PS - fixed the mic problem.. bought a torq T6 screwdriver and tighten the screws (good advice on an old post on this forum) - bingo a new mic... For how long I wonder!! Call me cynical - you know me!

if you want the parts you are best to buy them now. you will never find them again - i can assure you.
The spares are expensive because we have a VERY LIMITED supply. Once we sell out, we're probably not going to be able to get any more in, ever!
It's taken us a lot of work to get them in the first place - their price reflects this. I can assure you that we have quite a few very satisfied customers.
Oh, and I'd hate to suggest we have a monopoly on the spares, but NO WHERE else has them!
does sendosmartphones ship to germany(maybe even to iran or dubai??) how can i pay for it? i have a bank account in germany and could wire money to the uk ( i think)
i really need a new mic cuz i have the old shitty ones.

We will ship to anywhere in the world. Currently the only payment option is PayPal, but we're looking to add more as time goes on.
