TomTom Mobile 5 voices...

11 replies · 13,996 views · Started 24 August 2005

I've been trying to get some extra voices working in TT mobile and cannot get them to work. I'm running on a Nokia 3230.

From reading various sources of information on the web it appears to be due to the voice packs you may find and download are in 22khz format, which 'most' smartphones do not support.

I was wondering if anyone new a way of extracting the 'ogg' files and downsampling to 16khz that is generically supported by all smartphones to my knowledge, and re-compile.

I'm having no joy with 'VIFtool', which simply states VIF file invalid (or similar).

Anybody?

strutter,

I have been working on just that...for my 6600.

It is NOT very pretty pretty as it stands, but will do the job.

I have tried it with Nokia PC suite.
No go, alas.
So the samples should be resampled to 16Khz?
BTW: Why does it take so long to select the special voices?

I think I have found the problem...
At least I hope so.

You can only store 28 voices.
You have to rename the special voices data*.chk to a number between 00 and 28.
Here are the list of voices for each person.

Dansk - Brigitte - data00.chk
Deutsch - Werner - data01.chk
Deutsch - Lisa - data02.chk
English - Tim (GB) - data04.chk
English - Jane (GB) - data05.chk
English - Lori (US) - data07.chk
English - Bonnie (US) - data08.chk
English - Richard (US) - data09.chk
Espaol - Marta - data10.chk
Franais - Jacques - data11.chk
Franais - Catherine - data12.chk
Italiano - Chiara - data13.chk
Nederlands - Bram - data14.chk
Nederlands - Eva - data15.chk
Nederlands - Nora - data16.chk
Nederlands - Cora (B) - data17.chk
Norsk - Liv - data18.chk
Svenska - Astrid - data19.chk
Norsk - Jrgen - data20.chk
Svenska - Patrik - data21.chk
Espaol - Antonio - data22.chk
Dansk - Nils - data23.chk
Italiano - Roberto - data24.chk
Portugus - Joaquim - data25.chk
Portugus - Catarina - data26.chk
Suomi - Kati - data27.chk

Leave the .bmp files out and it'l work like a charm.

hmmm, will let u know if i hear from my tomtom support email. they don't seem to be keen on you contacting 'em though!

I also have the same problem, got a 6600 and can't get the voices to work at all. Have tried in a friends PDA and no problem. Read that it's something to do with the bit rate of the OGG files but I can't find a program to play them let alone downgrade them to 16khz. I guess the best way forward would be if someone out there has the actual WAV files still that I could convert to OGG 16khz, so if anyone has please get in touch or if anyone knows a program to downsample the OGG files I have already. They sound awesome on mates PDA so am itching to get em working on my 6600.

Thanks all.

i followed a guide to do this, and had the wave files somewhere - still didn't work on my 7610

Try to change the file name to data71.chk and data71.vif and it will be shown as special 11 voice in tomtom. You can use other voices too but rename them above 71 (like data72.chk and data72.vif and they'll be special 12).

This worked with me, hope you too.

has anyone sussed this out yet as its not working on my 7610? i can see the pictures but i never get any sounds???
