I�m interested in getting the latest upgraded firmware from Sony Ericsson on my mobile. My (from O2 purchased, in Spring 2004) P910i phone has CDA 162006/15 R1C01 and the Sony Ericsson website says the most recent version is R4A01. However, i can down load the 11 MB file onto my PC and run the install programme, but get two nonfatal errors in the logfile:
Modify Text File - Single File: New File C:\hf.path
Status: ERROR
Additional Notes: ERROR - java.lang.NullPointerException
Modify Text File - Single File: New File C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Update Service/Sony Ericsson Update Service v1.18.tmp
Status: ERROR
Additional Notes: ERROR - java.lang.NullPointerException
Subsequent to this the phone is not updated with the new software. However, is did damage a couple of applications and I had to reinstall these. Anybody have any ideas what the problem is and how to proceed to successfully upgrade the firmware, in particular as I have heard of suppliers locking the phones so they cant be firmware upgraded?

I was advised to download latest java virtual machine software, switch off firewalls and set internet security to low, then log on to Sony Ericsson website to use Update Service. However, when i do this the still fails to work Update Service, responding with the message:
"No SyncStation found A DSS-20 or DSS-25 SyncStation is required to use the Sony Ericsson Update Service. Please connect a DSS-20 or DSS-25 SyncStation to your computer and click Try again."
which is completely in correct as i just synchronised and backed up to i know it's connected to the PC.
So any body have any ideas as to what is going wrong?
