1GB card fried... What to do?

Now this is irritating! I did some manual editing of files on the Memory Stick some weeks back, and when deleting a rather large folder using the file manager in sman the whole shebang froze in the middle of deleting.

However, being a savvy PC user ( 😃 ) I know better than to panic. So I waited. And when still nothing happened on the machine I went to lunch. And when coming back from lunch the thing still was froze I decided to PANIC!!!

In the end I had to remove the battery, to even be able to restart the phone. And then only with the MS out. Imagine my joy when having rebooted the phone and put in the card, the little box saying "Drive D: corrupt" (or damaged or what the hell it says...)

After that I spent some days trying to re-format the disk, since that was about all the help I got from SanDisk's site. To no avail. It won't work in any of the cardreaders I've tried. It won't work in a Sony digital camera. I even tried mounting the bloody thing as a device under linux, but no luck there either (that one was more to do with me total wanker when it comes to linux than anything else, I suspect).

Anyhow - getting a new one isn't that big an issue - prices has dropped considerably lately - but what's bothering me is that this can happen! It has no moving parts, it hasn't been subjected to electrical currents (that I know of) and it hasn't been used to lever tires of the wheels on my car... Since I'm stumped, totaly at loss and seriously considering eating the little bastard just so as to give it the pleasure of getting to visit the sewer systems - is there anyone out there with an idea on how to get this idiotic piece of silicon working again? I really don't give a toss about the data contained on it - that's all available on my PC, I just want it to WORK.

TIA!

Perhaps try formatting with Win 98 or some OS that doesn't attempt to mount the fs first?
