If it's locked by 3, it usually means it can only be unlocked by 3, and at a price. :frown:

I recently bought a nokia 6680 from eBay without realising it was the new BB5 algorhythm and therefore impossible to unlock using a free code generator (at the moment) so i contacted 3 who advised me that to unlock the phone they'd charge me �150 (i have a 3pay sim card). After searching the interweb i've mailed them back as well as trading standards, 3s complaints department and a few others advising them that the OFT guidelines on unlocking a h/set state that the charge to unlock a h/set must be proportionate to the cost of unlocking it without retaining an element of profit. All other UK networks charge �15-20 therefore it seems unreasonable of 3 to expect people to pay their charges which amount to legalised extortion.

I'd suggest anyone wanting their 6680 unlocking to follow the same procedure - the more people taking this all the way the sooner 3 will realise they can't expect people to pay the ludicrous charges they expect!!

i have just done exactly the same. i too thought it was unlockable via code! i also spoke to 3 who quoted me £150. I will do as you suggest, however, 3's website seems to be down, therefore i cannot get the necessary email addresses. Could you post them on here for us and i will send the emails straight away?

I know of people/other forums working trying to work out the new algo for these phones but it looks as though it will take a long time!
Dont know whether to sell it on and buy an unlocked one or hold onto it...

I also hate 3 daylight robbers i would NEVER use their network if u paid me - and i shall tell everyone i know not to bother too.

P.s. Can we not raise a petition on here and get everyone to add their name to it?

I have the same problem!!
My friend travelled for England and he brought me of gift one 6630 of the 3 network. (Im Brazilian and I live in the Brazil now) The 6630 came locked.
I ordered an email for 3 asking for information to unlock the handset, them they had answered informing me that the Nokia not more sending the code for the 6630.

O i really need some genius to crack this algo in the next 3weeks as im heading over to Thaialnd for a few months and seriously need/want my phone,,,,arrrrrr !!

I don't think it is out of order for "3" to make these charges.
They are giving the phones away and would make huge losses if they unlocked em cheaply.

I have a 6630 on "3", as they only charge me �1.99 a month (including 500 mins + 100 texts) I don't think I will ever bother with unlocking it.

Well done to all you folk that have managed to get out of there 3 contract(me included after only 3m),,,fee free due to the 'price increases' letter.
I have some good news for you.....as you will now be out of contract with that handset (or at most for the next 30days) you can now call '3' and obtain the unlock code for your phones,,,for �15 !!!!...as you are now out of contract.

hey i also have a locked 6680 on 3 but if u go to the nokia shop the bloke can unlock it to one network only, for about 15 20 quid hope this helps u out

You can get an unlock code for your Nokia 6680 mobile phone from Wickedunlock.com .Here you have to specify details like the country name which is locked to 3 and IMEI number of your mobile phone.Then they deliver a code to unlock it.
