Following up previous speculation, we can confirm that Nokia will be announcing "the next phase in the evolution of the leading mobile gaming device - the N-Gage" on October 13th, in Barcelona. Naturally we'll be there to bring you the news on what our Finnish gamers are up to as soon as it happens. Let the speculation begin!

If I had to make a guess, I would probably say that the silver N-Gage is that last we'll see. I'm expecting Nokia to can the line completely and incorporate all the technology into future N-Series phones and maybe release a Pop-Port based control pad add-on.

first of all,why oct 13th?they could have done it during the NMC at barcelona....
secondly, why do they have to can the n-gage?the QD sells well and the silver qd is sure to bring in more along with the new games.mayb this is the last of the Qd,but nokia might release a gaming-oriented mobile on the n-series with the n-gage platform

i must say that this is gonna be the best ever holiday season for the n-gage..ONE,PTG:ikusa Isands,High seize,RIFTS,System rush,Catan..all top of the line exclusive n-gage titles, this will well continue into summer next year.

Interesting that the launch is the day after the Smartphones Show ends...

I wouldn't be surprised if the N-Gage and the 7710 merged somehow - it's superior screen size, landscape format and the ability to more easily re-build it's OS without breaking masses of compatibility must make it a good candidate for a future N-Gage device.

From videos seen at E3, it seems next NGage screen will be as wide as PSP one

The QD sells well for a smartphone model, but it sells very badly as a platform on its own. The PSP and DS expect to sell 10 million each by the end of the year, but the N-Gage has barely managed 2 million over the past two years.

Ultimately games systems are all about the games, and the one thing the N-gage lacks is a larger number of game releases. The best way of getting more games is to attract games publishers, and the best way to attract games publishers is to have a large userbase for your games system.

On their own the N-gage and QD just don't have a big enough userbase to attract that many publishers, there just aren't enough potential customers for the games.

The Symbian Series 60 platform though sells tens of millions of phones every year, and the amount it sells every year grows every year. After 2 years of N-gage we have 2 million potential customers, but after 1 year of smartphone gaming there will probably be 25 million potential customers.

After 2 or 3 years the figure will be higher, maybe even getting near the 100 million mark, far more than any other games system except the PC. That's the kind of thing that attracts publishers, and if you attract publishers you get more games.

It's the games that are important, and this is a good way of getting more of them.

yeah, larger the pizza base larger will be the cheese spread on it too😃

is it possible that nokia will pull a rabbit out of the hat i.e. surprise everyone in the industry(console and mobile)by doing something totally unexpected???

they already did it at E3,announcing support for the n-gage when everyone said that its headed down south, guess they might do it again...

btw when is the gerard weiner chat this week, krisse?

where in barcelona? is it possible for non-professional public to go?

BTW, I think it is very probable that nokia will stop giving the unconditional support it has given the ngage, and announce the new next-gen gaming phone. N-gage-like, I hope. We cannot complain, it has endured, and they have created a very good system, probably my favourite one, even though I have both DS and PSP.
