N-gage Qd problem .. plz help if anyone can

my phone turns off sometimes when someone calls me .. or when i get a message.. and turns off surely when i use the gprs. and it doesnt turn off normaly. when it turns off .. it doesnt start regurlary .. i mean ( by just pressing the turn on bottun) i need to connect it to the charger.. and i cant turn it on wiothout the charger.. i went to 2 phone repair shops . they said it needs softawre.. and itll cost 15 $ and the other shop wants 20 $..so plz can anyone tell me whats the software needed..? and where can i get it from..thanks

Pity.Go to nokia.com then search according to yr cntry for nearest service centre.But nokia centres tho guarantteed quality r over priced,first exhaust yr local stores.Also on nokia.Com go to repair,then email them to get actual advice on software version u needed.To get yr current software type *#0000#.Good lk

There are many way to solve ur problem Necrophagist. Try this:

1. Boot ur phone in safe mode: Hold the pen/pencil key while ur phone is boot/start until it turn on. Restart the phone without safe mode method.

2. If u've mmc inserted, bring it out. Try with normal mode/safe mod.

3. Remove the battery for a while. Try again 

4. Hard format ur phone memory: Safe ur contacts first. Use fileman(symbianware.com). Install it to ur mmc. Point to c:\system. Rename the folder data 2b data1 (c:\system\data --> c:\system\data1). Find the file called contacts.cdb. Copy it to ur mmc. Bring back the folder name again (c:\system\data1 --> c:\system\data. Close fileman. Turn off the phone. Its better to remove the mmc. Turn on again. Type *#7370# in ur phone. The phone will ask u to confirm the code and the lock code of ur phone(default is 12345). The phone will restart. Wait for a while until the phone is turn of. Take times to format ur phone memory. The phone will ask u to enter the new date n time. Bring back ur contacts. Use fileman. Insert the mmc (to use fileman). Rename c:\system\data --> c:\system\data1. Replace file contacts.cdb(saved in ur mmc) to c:\system\data1. Bring back the folder name again(c:\system\data1 --> c:\system\data. Restart ur phone.

5. Check ur mmc for corrupt:

- 7tools partition manager (get it here: geocities.com/rulirahm/symbian/7tools.zip, the demo version is capable of carrying out this task)
- Pair of hands
- little brain but not necessary

Article Part one

Put your MMC into your card reader, select the MMC 
If your partition is corrupted you will see several invalid partions in red in the left hand pane (MMC drive section)
Right click each of these and left click delete.
Click apply (top left button 
You should be left with a single free unit on your MMC drive. Now right click
that unit and select create primary partition. 
Go with the defaults which should be FAT16 and click on apply.

Exit and put your card back into your N-Gage. If you find that the MMC card still does not mount via the USB cable (That is if it was mounting prior to corruption). Unplug the cable and put your MMC 
card back into your card reader.
Article Part two

Start the 7tools and select the MMC again.
In the right hand pain you will see a column that says Active (it will probably be set to "no"😉 click this and set it to yes (That take a few MB of your MMC but it makes it an active bootable drive partition), click apply
Put the MMC back into your N-Gage and format it via tools-memory-[options]-format mem card.
You will notice that the card is a couple of MB down on it original size but it will now be fully bootable and functional via the USB cable again.

Keep in mind:
If u formatting MMC card trough windows u could fuck it up if you format in any other partition than FAT, no other partitions like NTFS, FAT32, don’t work!

Hi again.Technlogy is a b1tch.Wen i last read yr thread my phne was well fine,now aftr a few new crackd apps(oh lord,is this punishment?Hehe)my phne can only restart using charger or it tells me phne restart failed go to retailer!I think culprit is switchn off phne with some apps runnin,especially slauncher!For now,wil try pencil method(thanx rulirahm) but am not re-formatting again(have done so thrice and u kno what they say about having 3 chances!)otherwise its a minor glitch i can live with.Nothings perfect these days,specially women!Hehe!L8rz.

i gave mine to a repair shop . and he gave it another reepair shop .. they said ittll work .. and ill pay 10 $
i went to the nokia service center they want 16 $ .. and they will keep it there for 3 days .. and that bitch told me that there is a risk that my phone wont start anymore if they installed software.. so i told her thank you .. and went away..

Hehehe!Crooks galore!Its funny,here too(am in uganda,eastafrica)nokia folk chargn US$25.i almost flippd the birdie coz on the wall was a bright sign sayn software upgrade done at yr own risk!3 blocks away a private lad would do it @ US$7 but had same sofware warning!MY ADVICE;better to have phone that needs charger to start than phone that has latest software but cant start!Hehe!Let me try this abc button method...

Safeboot failed.But ive noted wen i restart without a particular mmc it works fine!So i fink software isnt d problem,must b one ov my crackd apps(holy sh1t,me mom was rite,cheap sh1t is actually expensive in da long run)so i guess i have to formatt card...wil keep u posted.Let me kno if sumn works for u.L8'a

i went to the repair shop .. and he said .. it isnt a software problem .. and ill give it you tomorrow..

I think that they want to reflashing ur phone. 
cant we upgrade the firware by ourselves? .. and are you sure it needs that upgrade to work ?
Yes u can if u in a good hand to upgrade it. But nokia recomended that only the persons that nokia allowed to do this job and u need the h/w(tools) called flashing box, PC with lpt port and the cost is among 200 - 400 US$. I think that upgrade the firmware is not the solution for ur phone. Many apps didn't require firmware ver. to run. 
he couldnt fix it .. what hgapppened with you,,?
Do u use MMC card? Ever got this before. Check it for corrupt.

well yeah i use a mmc card . but ive tried using the phone without it .. but it wont work too .. its keeps turning off.. either when i open wap .. or when i reieivceve a call or an sms.. and tomorrow there will be a figth with the repair man ..hes such an idiot..i contact him by phone . and every day he says.. yesss i know now how to fix it .. then i call him back .. he says am trying another way .. tomorow am going to see him and take my phone .. and my 15 $ which i already paid .. and beat him up if he think about not giving me my money

after 1 week .. he couldnt repair it..
i went to the nokia service center... and i dont have a garauntee on this phone .. they told me .. maybe itll stop working anymore when we install the needed software.. and were not responsible .. so i didnt give to them .. and now still waiting for a solution ..

I've read the newspaper at my city that if reflasing a phone can't fix ur phone's problem, then the technician must take a look/check the IC/chip/signal/etc... of the phone. Must use with flasher tools. Some kind of the memory in ur chip has gone/corrupt/broken. Btw, before ur phone is broken, what have u done with it?
