what is firmware .how does one update it.and where do we get it?a lo of people are now day talking about them.but i would to know more about them. 😊

"Firmware" is the built-in phone software (including the operating system, built-in applications, cellular modem software, etc.).

It resides in ROM (Read-Only Memory), which is writable through a procedure called "flashing" (because the ROM is implemented by using so called Flash memory technology/chips).

With today's Nokia phones and policy, the firmware updates are not user-installable, and the recommended/preferred way is to have a Nokia authorized service/repair center do it.

For phones under warranty it is usually done free of charge. Otherwise the service center might charge a small fee for the job (if they've their equipment set up and ready to go, the actual procedure takes only about 10 minutes).

I haveNokia 3230. The firmware is V 3.0505.2 19-02-05 RM-51. Have anyone try the new/latest firmware? What's new?

press *#0000# while at the main screen of ur phone, the numbers following the V are ur firmware version

and if ur phone still have Nokia's warranty, u will get it for free. If the warranty expired, the cost will be cheap (about 50 % of discount). If ur phone from a black market, the cost will be about $100. My experience being upgraded my firmware(fw) that my phone's contacts didn't lost. Actually, upgrade for new fw will delete all of the data in phone memory and they will ask us to confirm about that so it's good to backup all of the data first !!! before going to fw upgrade.

i have tried with the nokia here they dont seem to have any firmware other than the one installed for 3230.is there any way else i can get it.:con?

hey i have one question though after the firmware upgrade you did not experience ay kind of problems??? because i read in some forums that the 3230 does not power up after the firmware...i also went to a NOkia shop here in my area...they did say it has a fee but they also said that there is a chance that the phone mifht not turn on ...any idea/comments on hot to go from here... thanks

I bought my nokia 3230 six months before and i have been facing alot of problems with my phone it automatically hangs up and refreshes itself at times when i type text messages, some times when i am viewing images and yeah one more thing when ever i turn it OFF and then turn it ON the screen remains blank white and the display doesnt appear i cant see tht nokia(shaking hands) logo on the screen but i still can hear the startup music(tone) i tried to call frm my another phone to nokia and i can hear tht someones calling means i can talk even with the blank white screen. can you guys tell me whether its a firmware problem or it might be some hardware fault? applications works quite slow as well. the phone is still in warranty.

it has its original firmware installed i.e v 3.0505.2

"Nokia firmware isn't public domain. You're not allowed to download it or flash the phone on your own.

The only legal way to get a new firmware is a Nokia Care Center (you can find their locations on the Nokia website). "😊
