I have tried 2 dictionary applications that worked on my X:

- Oxford English dictionary (http://www.mobi-systems.com/products.asp?MSSID=62298679d693b04f157e848b8a11bca5&PlatformName=SymbianOS&All=1)
This requires MSDict viewer as the dictionary viewer. I have tried MSDict viewer version 1.1 or 1.3 (don't remember) on the old firmware on my X and it worked fine although it was terribly slow to launch. Unfortunately, the firmware upgrade seems to have broken it and the latest version of MSDict view (version 2) doesn't seem to be compatible with the X. It's very expensive too.

- SlovoEd: they are more into translation dictionaries but they also have a "normal" English dictionary (http://siemens-sx1-software.epocware.com/SlovoEd/SlovoEd_English_Dictionary.html)
The latest version of their viewer works quite fine on the X and has a very small memory footprint so that you can let it run in background. They also have optional sound modules (http://siemens-sx1-software.epocware.com/SlovoEd/articles/Sound_modules.html) that work fine on the X and are very useful if English (or French, Italian and Spanish) is not your mother tongue. Their translation dictionaries are pretty fast and reponsive but their English <-> English dictionary takes ages to display the definition of a word, making it less interesting than their other dictionaries. I have posted a few days ago a quick review and a discount code that give you 70% off any SlovoEd dictionary and sound module: http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/41439/

Hurry up, the discount code is only valid until today.
A word of warning though about SlovoEd:
1) I have noticed that in certain situations, closing SlovoEd Reader would cause the X to crash and restart. Since i always let it running in the background, this doesn't bother me but it may be anoying to some.
2) SlovoEd is not compatible with the Sendo X keyboard. The Enter key on the keyboard has no effect in SlovoEd, making it impossible to view the translation (or definition in the case of the English <-> English dictionary) of a word

With the code i gave you, you could have bought one for around $5, that's less than a pint or a pack of cigarettes. Anyway, it's too late now... Try to go to your local book shop, they'll probably let you grab a dictionnary for free.

comon elp...say who will pay 4 gettin a dictionary  ...anyway thx 4 ur help man..do share in ur ideas ppl..if any of u guys r working dictionary in ur x plz share ur knowledge here...

Well, don't take it badly, but judging from your spelling in your posts here, i'm pretty sure that an Enlish dictionary would be an excellent investment for you. 😃

Yes I think you definetely need an english dictionary. Please try to use full english when writing in the forum.

You could look at getting an out of copyright dictionary eBook if you really want something free.

 ...tat u guys wer intelligent 2 interpret my short wordings..but guess not....guess i hav 2 write in full forms to b clear in future...😃

I guess that you have not read the FAQ before posting here, that would have avoided you and us to waste our time:

"Q: Where can I find codes/keygen/cracks for programs?
A: Please do not discuss anything related to WAREZ or CRACKS here. It is against the rules."

from ".tat u guys wer intelligent 2 interpret my short wordings..but guess not..." and the fact you absolutely wanted to have a dictionary for free and would not even consider buying one for $5, i assumed that you were asking for cracks. If cracks were not what you were looking for, i apologize. Next time, as you said, try "2 write in full forms to b clear in future".

Developing a dictionary database engine on such small and ressource limited devices obvioulsy requires lot's of time and effort, not to mention the fact that dictionary databases themselves are probably not free anyway. If you want a proper dictionary for your X, i'm afraid you'll have to pay.

no problemo elp...& cheers,i got the dictionary to work on my x,i installed msdict & oxford english dict successfully :icon14: ...thx 4 all ur help
