Anybody aware a solution to create a Dial-Up connection directly from the N70, without using a PC? I need this to access some POP3 email accounts, using the pop3-client on the phone.
The only option visible on my phone is Packet Switched Data, no Dial-Up connection...

Nokia dropped dial up connections a few phones ago, they assume you to use gprs or 3G.
Most pop3 accounts don't need dialup to access, only to send, but you can normaly use your service providers smtp to send and your pop3 provider to collect.

I assume that you can dial up to a wap account? I have a genie sim card that i want to use in an N70. I currently have a 6600 that i use to dial the genie (o2) wap up for free. it's slow, but like i said, it's free. I use these settings if that helps.

Username = geniewap

As Willbrady said, you can not create a dial up connection to wap
since 6630 only GPRS/3G connections are available
So they expect you to use the gprs? Surely this can't be true? I get my wap dial up for free so i'm not gonna get a phone that can't even do this simple task. I was gonna buy one yesterday, good job i never!
It say's it's a gsm phone and has a wap browser but you can't use dial up? i don't get it? Surely it's a phone, therefore it can dial a number, it has a wap browser, what's the problem there?
I agree with everything you are saying, but you can't create a GSM dial up access point in the N70, 6680, 6630, N90 etc etc
I went through the same period on denial a year ago, it is a right pain but you have to connect via GPRS or 3G or not at all.
I can't. I have an old Genie contract, 1500 off peak every month (great for me, i work nights) 500 free texts, unlimited wap. All for a tenner a month! I currently use a 6600 which does the job ok but I want to upgrade! I would almost sacrifice the free wap but then if I got an N70 I wouldn't be able to connect to the net whatsoever as they won't give me gprs or 3g or anything. They (O2) want me off the Genie asap. My last bill was £10.05.
Just been looking at the manual for the N70 on Nokia's site and it says this..

To view the details of a connection, scroll to a connection, and select Options > Details.
Name - The name of the Internet access point (IAP) in use, or the modem connection name if the connection is a dial-up connection.
Bearer - The type of data connection: Data call, High sp. GSM, or Packet data.
Status - The current status of the connection: Connecting, Conn.(inact.), Conn.(active), On hold, Disconnctng., or Disconnected.
Received - The amount of data, in bytes, received to your device.
Sent - The amount of data, in bytes, sent from your device.
Duration - The length of time that the connection has been open.
Speed - The current speed of both sending and receiving data in kilobytes per second.
Dial-up - The dial-up number used.
Name - Access point name used.
Shared (not shown if the connection is not shared) - The number of applications using the same connection.
Now why would that be on there if you can't have it???????????

The settings you show are from the connection manager, a utility to show you details of an active connection.
As you may still use the phone to connect your computer/laptop to the internet via Dial-up - it still shows the details, like dial up number etc.
If you go into Tools/Settings/Connection/Access points and try to set a new connection you can only select 'Packet Data' as the bearer type, there is no option for 'GSM Data' or 'High Speed GSM Data' and hasn't been since the 6630.
The last Nokia series 60 phone to support wap dail-up was the 7610

You can't imagine how upset I was with Nokia's decision to drop dial-up from 3G phones. I am looking forward to the SonyEricsson P990 which is 3G but still supports dial-up.
What really bothers me with Nokia is that there was no technical reason to remove dial-up; they take decisions and end customers need to cope.
