Just upgraded to V4.0526.2 firmware

Much nicer!
The MP3 is still mono, but at least it now has some bass!
And the annoying beep is still there, but at least it's quieter!

Hopefully i have inspired you to upgrade your firmware.

I got my local service centre to flash mine a few weeks ago, but it was only v3.0505.2 (19/02/2005) they had, the same as I had before... 😞

I think it is time to get a new phone, the software issues with this are annoying me more and more on a daily basis.

it depends what network your on as to what firmware you get. I'm in the uk on the orange network and I'm not allowed the latest firmware to fix my phone.
as you can imagine,I'm VERY mad and letters have been written!!!!!😡

Orange is the a mobile network in the uk and they change the firmware of the phone to add there own menu ( this actually causes more button pushes to reach items such as new text messages)
installing the latest firmware will remove this Orange branding, but i think that the network must have an agreement with the nokia service center so that coustomers don't remove there pointless software

mp3 wont change to sterio, it cant thats a hardware thing not firmware

No, because it is a hardware feature (or lack of it, really) that can't be fixed with software.

right everyone,
can i make a suggestion?
if your firmware is newer than whats listed below,
1) can you post what country you are in
2) what network you are on (the network also determines what firmware we get)
3) what firmware you have and the firmware date

it seems people have version 4 but all thats available to me in the UK is nothing above 3.05 for a sim free handset. by doing this we should be able to work out what firmware is available in what country.

Ev, Thanks! Just went and upgraded mine too. 😊

So far I've found:
Vibrates in silent mode
Photos not squashed
Beep before ring/message is MUCH quieter.

As you told no other MP3 Players supports stereo in NOKIA 3230. But the known thing is NOKIA 3230 has a built-in RADIO which is already a STEREO and with good sound clarity. The sound devcice is same for both radio and music player. If the radio supports stereo, then why cant there be a stereo MP3 PLAYER with same sound clarity of the visual radio?right?

Because the stereo output of the FM radio is handled by the separate radio chip and associated DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) and other circuitry/electronics.

There is no stereo output hardware support from the Symbian/S60 side, so no software-based MP3 or other audio player can do it (and they can't route the sound from the Symbian/S60 side through the radio chip either).

The Visual Radio application on the phone has just a specific low-level control mechanism available to turn the radio on or off, tune it, etc. (+ of course, the networking code to handle the "visual" bit of the functionality). The radio output never goes through (and out) the Visual Radio app.

Thank you very much for spending time to reply me. You have provided a very good explaination. Thank you for providing me. The doubt arised because, the visual radio will stop functioning when we play mp3. So I thought there is only one sound device like computer's sound card. The MP3 Player and Visual Radio are the two app using the same sound device like WINAMP and REALPLAYER in computers. Why NOKIA is like this I dont know.

Saw this on another site, thought it might be of interest here:

New data package v37.0 (MCU SW 4.0537.0) has been released for RM-51.

Changes/improvements made from MCU SW v 4.0526.2 to v 4.0537.0:
- Bluetooth:
- SW support for new Bluetooth module added
- Improvement for pairing devices
- Improved handling of volume control when music player is stopped by incoming phone call

Changes/improvements made from MCU SW v3.0505.2 to v4.0526.2:
- Call and network management
- A warning tone just before the ringing tone is played due to safety
reason, but the sound level has been reduced by 10dB
- Warning tone is not played when the ringing tone is set to �Off�

- GPRS
- Improved handling of GPRS request from network enabling streaming at high rate

- Browser
- Improvement for browser when trying to access some specific web pages
- The UPD range was previously limited to the range 6970-32000 and now the supported range is 1024 (0x400) and 65535 (0xFFFF)
