Trouble connecting Ir-port in XP

10 replies · 2,763 views · Started 14 November 2002

Does anybody know how I can configure my IRwave 520U USB-IrDA Adapter to cooperate with WinXP Pro? I used it on win2k pro before and it worked perfectly, but after I "upgraded" (!LOL!) to XP it doesn't recognize that phone is nearby... However it adds a new device to my hardware list: Standard Modem over IR link. It stays there for 30sec before saying that there might be a problem with the modem, since the driver cannot be configured correctly.. (??!??)
first after the phone has stopped searching and has turned off the ir, I get the message that Nokia7650 is in range. But when I turn IR back on, it changes to some hardware error message.. :bad-words:

I hope this made sence to some of you and that you can help me out... 😊

P.S. And I have the latest XP driver for the IR-port..

Cause PC suite doesnt compatible to WIN XP. So if you have the patch or new version of PC suite, send it to me, pls

Totally disagree with you. I am running Win XP pro at home and my nokia suite is running well and stable. I am also running it with my MSI Bluetooth Transcieving key.

there was a similar problem from someone else, on a different forum, or maybe even here, i gave this guy 2 hints, the last worked for him:

1) in w2k - u are using xo, i know, but maybe this can also apply if 2) doesn't help - M$ wasn't shipping the entire irda stack... you had to get this stuff seperatly, without it w2k was able to recognize any device, but wasn't able to transmit any data with most devices... there are some freeware solutions - www.ircomm.de, some that take your money, and after some time there was a patch from M$ also...

2) this might apply to you: check the settings of the irda-adapter - if it is built in (like in notebook) you can set operating modes in the bios - IRDA or Fast-IR (FIR), switching the mide might help - dunno where you can set this for a external irda cnverter though... maybe there is some sort of control-panel-app for this thingy..?

hope that helps, Martin.

i'm using IRwave as well, works great on my winXP!
did you follow the instructions (that came with the install CD for XP?)

erm... mebbe u could try reinstalling it again?

I followed the instructions carefully.. I have tried to install/uninstall for aboout 17 times now or so..
The thing is that the CD wich followed with the IRwave is labeled for Win98/98SE/2000 and millennium.. (No XP)
So I went to the manufacturers homepage (http://www.ehoya.com.tw/download.htm) and downloaded the XP-driver..
But there's still no chance of it connecting.. 😞
could you perhaps send me copy of your driver so I can try that one?

BTW, is your port named IR-520U,as well?
Cuz,there are ports with name that ends with F,S,SA,UK,also... 😊 Perhaps there's a difference there?

Thanks man! I followed your advice no 2.. I went in to the driver properties and started changing everything..I thought, What'a'heck.. It can't get any worse than it is,right.. I kept the phone on searching all yhe time and suddenly it started working. 😊 I'm not sure what it is that made it work, but I'll just leave it as it is for now.... 😃

wow that was fast.. sorry i didn't check this post again fast enough!
so you got it working?

if it acts up again, do let me know :P

I use to have a similiar problem as well, but you can just change the tranciever type in the wireless link settings, to the default, and it'll connect quite fast. (no more lagging)

Except occasionally if i log off then log on again as a different user the IR wont work until i restart the PC. Really annoying! (anybody having the same problem? -with xp-)

Ey,man! Are you using my computer?!?!! hehhe Just Kidding.. 😊
I just couldn't have described the situation in my pc better... 😊
the only difference is that I set my IR to SigmaTel 4000 in stead of the Infineon(Default)..
I'll let you know if I find a solution... Hope you'll do the same.. 😉

I could perhapse just as well have deleted the first post, but I just couldn't be bothered with it.. 😊
AS I wrote in this other post, from 5 min ago, it works allright now, except from after a user-change... But, I can live with that.. For now.. 😊

But, thnx anyway.. 😊
