business phone for linux user?

Hi I'm primarily a linux user and want a business phone for
the calendar utility and internet access. I read email on pine terminal
and it looks like, from the listings, that I can get a good ssh program for the 9500, which is fine for me for email.

The question is what about syncing calendar utility to e.g. korganizer?
I can save my cal on linux in ical or vcal format. Can I just port the file
over to the phone to sync, using some secure ftp protocol (e.g. scp)?
Or is there a more direct way to sync? In general it would be nice to be able to transfer files on command to the phone over scp/ssh. I'd rather do stuff by hand that fuss with some pc-sync software.

I did download pcsuite to my windows laptop to have a look, but I notice
that it does not run its own calendar emulator. You have to have lotus or outlook installed. It would be much easier to just keep the calendar on my primary linux box and port stuff directly to the phone instead of going through the laptop.

Am thinking this is probably the phone for me (as opposed to e.g. imate jasjar) but I want to be sure of the calendar thing first. Since I don't use outlook for email it is basically useless to me as a calendar program (it wont even run with email disabled).

Thanks for advice. Please either post or PM advice.

Also pls note I am not a developer, just a user of linux in a university environment, with a serious need for business phone for organization and travel.

Hi,

I completely understand your request, and I use Linux as my primary desktop OS too, which basically means that I can't synchronise my 9500 with my primary desktop. I have to run a windows machine somewhere and as my laptop has packed up royally (won't even go to BIOS), I'm left with installing PC Suite onto either a VMWare machine or onto some old piece of hardware that I have...

... Not fun - if you or anyone else finds a way to connect the 9500 to my KDE desktop then I'd be more than happy to hear about it! 😊

... Or if you know of a robust Linux port for the 9500 I'd be even happier! LOL

Wirelessly posted (9500: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0; Series80/2.0 Nokia9500/05.22 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1))

I have been using Symbian (ER3) longer than I have been using Linux, so I never got into GNOME/KDE calendaring. I keep everything on the phone, period. I assume there is a reason you want/need the calendar info under Linux, but I cannot imagine why. Please let me know what I am missing.
