Problem with the data cable

Hi guys,
My data cable is not being recognized by my pc.
I have already installed the pc suite.
Iam using Windows XP machine with the USB Port.
When I try to install the data cable driver it throws me a error stating that "you need to install Service pack 1 For XP inorder to use data cable".
But I also tried that, but still it doesn't work.
Could anyone provide me a solution for this???

YOu should update your XP to SP 2 level, assuming you have official Windows pack, you get the SP from Windows update
