Dear all,
I'm yet to own a Symbian phone but very soon. I wish to know whether I can install .sis themes onto the MMC card instead of the phone's built-in memory because I may need to decide whether to upsize my memory card when I purchase the phone.
Also can games/applications be installed onto external card too?
Thanks.
Most all programs and themes can be installed in either phone memory or a memory card as you prefer.
Thanks. Currently I'm using a 6230 (S40) where I can only install .jar apps thru the Nokia Apps Installer siftware. And the destination is fixed into the phone memory. No options allowed, i.e. I can't choose to install into memory card.
Seems like there's an improvement in the S60. Is it the same whether I install .jar file thru a PC (Nokia software) or self-installation in the phone using .sis file?
.jar files contain applications written using the Java programming language.
.sis files usually contain themes or applications written using C++.
You can install both via PC Suite's "Application Installer", or just sending them over to the phone using Bluetooth and opening them from the Inbox.
You can also copy them files directly to the phone's file system (phone memory or memory card) usin PC Suite's "Phone Browser" and install them using the "Manager" app on the phone (or launch the installation with a file manager on it).
Or you can use an USB card reader to copy the files to the memory card on a PC and proceed as in the preceding case.
Or you can send them to the phone as email attachments (assuming you've set up the phone to receive/retrieve email).
Or you can put them up for download on a web or WAP server through the network/Internet.
