Using N-Gage to access the internet on PC

5 replies · 3,096 views · Started 23 November 2005

My question is pretty simple. How can I configure the N-gage QD to gain internet acces on my PC via GPRS. I don't mean dial up. I want to use the standard GPRS connection the phone is using to access the net, so I can do it on my PC.

I would really appriciate it, if someone could help me out with that. The configuration and all that. Step by step if possible. I have tried, but it didn't work as it should.

Thanks in advance.

This guide will help you to connect your N-Gage or other Nokia Series 60 phone to the internet so that
you may connect to the N-Gage Arena or just browse the internet all without having to use your phone service.
Most service providers charge a fee for surfing the web or using any data services on your phone. After
completing this guide you will be able to do any of the above without any charges and with the speed of
your home internet connection you'll do it faster!

1ST BEFORE READING ANY FARTHER....YOU MUST ALREADY HAVE PCSUITE SUCCESFULLY INSTALLED!!!

First make sure that your PC Suite works with bluetooth.

DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT!!! Just configure your mRouter to connect on the same serial port as your bluetooth
usb dongle. (BECAUSE IF YOU DO YOU WILL GET THE ERROR MAXIMUM BLUETOOTH CONNECTIONS REACHED!!!!! )

On the phone:

Download the gnubox application and install it on your phone.

http://www.raywalk.com/upload/1/8/gnubox.sis

FIRST YOU WILL HAVE TO SETUP THE CONNECTION WITH YOUR PC SO:
Setting--->Connection--->GPRS--->accesspoint; HERE FILL IN THE NAME OF YOUR PC!!!!!!! Do not forget this!!!!!!

Create a new Access Point on the phone

(Settings--->Connection--->Access points--->New access point--->Use default settings)

Name: Bt Data Bearer:
GSM data: (This is NOT GPRS!! you have 2 change it!!)
Dial-up number: 2222
Username: RasUser
Promp password: No
Password: pass
Gateway IP Address: 169.254.1.68
Homepage: http://www.google.com/wml (or anything you want)

Install gnubox.sis on your phone.

NOW YOU PUT ON YOUR BLUETOOTH.

Run the gnubox application and select
Options--->2box Direct--->Bluetooth.
Now the gnubox application WILL SEARCH FOR YOUR PC!!!!!It should list the new settings and switch to a light
BLUE BACKGROUND if you see this everything is working fine!!!!!!

That's it! Now start the game you want to play online, and then select the N-gage Arena mode. It will now ask you which
accesspoint to use, so select the Bt accesspoint when you want to connect and it should work fine.

Happy browsing,

Thanks to Fromanotherstate for the original info😊

Thanks, but I think you misunderstood me there. I DO NOT have an internet connection on my PC. Neither dial up nor anything ealse. I can however access internet on my phone. My question is: Is it POSSIBLE to use PHONE'S CONNECTION to accest the internet ON MY PC.

Basically, I want to use my phone and its GPRS connection to go online on my PC. That's it. Is there any way I can do that.

You should be able to configure the QD to appear as a Bluetooth modem. The modem drivers (if the generic drivers provided by Windows are not enough, if you use Windows on your PC): http://www.n-gage.com/en-R1/support/Software/modemsoftware.htm

Then on the PC create a dial-up connection choosing the Bluetooth modem corresponding to the phone, and set up the connection to "call" the number *99# (or *99***1#). This will open a GPRS packet data connection.

You may also have to initialize the modem with: +cgdcont=1,"ip","internet"

No need to specify any usernames or passwords for the dial-up connection.

thats fine bud its much easyer to set up your phone as a modem if you first install nokia pc suite then goto your settings in windows and setup a new connection using your blutoth modem ie. your phone try *99* as a dial up number

dude.... i got this major thingy on my pc suite. It says that my phone isnt compatible with the software. I cant even change my device as it shows under the unknown devices in the mRouter saying Nokia sum no. and (bluetooth) i dunno wat it is... pleeesseeee help me out.. i have been trying since sucha loong time... please
