Just bought RSMMC Mobile 1G in Hong Kong.....

22 replies · 4,046 views · Started 29 November 2005

Kingston Brand. DV RSMMC Mobile. Tried in my N70 and it shows 995MB available. But need to copy my old card to the new card and fill the new card up to really test whether there are any problems........

Cost HKD 600. Roughly USD 77

OK. Just copied my "old" 512MB card to the 1G and put a total of around 700MB of jpg and mp3s on the card. N70 is alive and well. Can browser thru the new pictures and plays mp3 just fine. Obviously, I haven't gone thru evey single one of the 700MB contents yet........

Everything appears to work fine (all built-in stuff/opera/MSN/worldmate..... etc)

A bit slow in browsing speed but more than acceptable (barely noticeable only while browsing contents on the card)......

Excellent news!! 😃 I was thinking of getting a 512k DV-RS-MMC card but now I think I'll hold off until the 1GB versions hit the UK.

HELP!!!!

Just got a 256 card (PNY) and I'm having problems.
I have formatted the card.
Copied all of my memory card (Nokia) using Bacup, then restored to new card. It's not having it...... first time, it said memory card corrupt, so I reformatted it, restored the data agin and it's only copied about 18mb across... I can see the Jigsaw style Icon for my software but it's not running it.
The card was about 56mb of 64mb so theres a lot missing.

If you have some advice, please shout.... SOON!!!

Thanks

Sounds like a faulty card to me.

When your card is inserted do you have any other problems? Try changing the camera settings to Mem card and take a picture, does it appear on the mem card or take a long time to save?

No what I would normally do. Get yourself a RSMMC usb card reader. They are cheap nowadays. Stick it in your computer. In windows xp, open your old card and make sure you are showing hidden files as well. (tools/folder options/view and check the view hidden files......). Copy everything to a temporary location on your computer. Stick in your new card. Format it as FAT if you have to. And copy everything from your temp folder back to the new card. Stick it in your phone and go.......

Good luck.

Hi JB,
When I insert the card, the phone seems fine, everything is functioning as it should be as far as I can tel!

Just stuck the card back in, took a picture, and it's saved it pretty quickly.

TBH, I'm a little dissapointed, I bought the card from Datkits, it was advertised at 14.99, supposed data transfer of Max 56Mbps with 5 year warranty.
When I got it, it's Data Transfer Rate is only 2Mbps Max and a 3 year Warranty.

Not sure what to do really!

Ok, I understand what you are saying here... is a Card Reader any different to the following?

Using Nokia Suite, File Transfer:
I created a new folder on my Desktop, copied all the info from the Nokia MC to that new folder, then transferred the contents of said folder to the new MC.... thats what I did the second time around.

Still didn't work... only 18mb of 47mb copied!!

Getting annoyed now!

I have the same sort of problem when i transfer music to my card, it starts to copy and then stops shortly after, it's only music on mine though as everything else transfers fine.

My advise would be to send the card back explaining your problems and get them to exchange it for another make or get a refund and get one from elsewhere. Adata seems to be recommended by quite a few people.

Think you're right there....
Just mailed them (no contact telephone number!!) and requested my RMA number. Let's see how long thta takes to come through!!

Cheers for your efforts JB

Datakits.co.uk

They don't list Adata. They have Kingston, Kingmax, Sandisk, PNY and PQI?

And I don't remember seeing Adata on any of the sites I looked at...

So frustrating this one...
Strange when we get problems, there doesn't seem to be a logical answer to it anywhere....
Tom Tom is another example....

Ah well, back to the drawing board and internet then!

Got this one licked!!!

Connected the phone, did a COMPLETE back up of phone and memory card, then did a complete restore back to phone and new memory card....

AND IT WORKS FINE!

Just got to worry about the transfer rate now, need to load TomTom on and see if it's fast enough to run it.... fingers crossed.

I can only summise from all this messing around that when you install apps onto the MC that certain parts are put on the phone memory as well, bit like when you load software on a PDA or PC. Bits go where you want them to go, but other bits (behind the scenes) are thrown elsewhere!?

Nice one, well done. I might try that tonight on mine and see if it cures the music file transfer problem i'm having.

Any ideas on Transfer Rates JB?

This one says 2Mbps, which I'm guessing is quite slow.... do you reckon it's still worth changing it to something faster?

Not sure what everyone else is running?!?!?1

What method are you using to connect, BT or cable?

I will check tonight to see what my card is transfering at? It takes me about 20 secs to copy across a mp3 file via BT.

I'll register both speeds and post tomorrow.

BT connections are quite easy, use the connection manager at the bottom right of the pc suite screen, that will walk you through connecting through BT. You may also find quicker transfer speeds depending on your BT adapter.

Cheers for that.

I'll have a look at the Nokia Suite and see if I can set up the BT then.

The transfer rates are not too much of an issue for me.... I just connect the phone and let it get on with it.

I guess what I'm more worried about is that when I load TomTom onto the card, is whether 2Mbps is fast enough to run the software efficiently... I'm hoping it will be.

Yes. They are very different. I don't think the Nokia backup programs will backup all the hidden files on your card when you specify only the memory card.

A card reader allows Windoze XP to directly read the file systems and will allow you to copy the hidden files as well. Not to mention that most card readers nowadays are USB2.0 Hispeed. So much faster then copying from the phone........ (contingent on the card speed of course.....)

i have a 512 kingston and havent had any problems with it, ive had it for about 3 months now, i might get the 1gb and give the 512 to my dad, as he recently got the 6680 as well, even though he wont be putting anything on it, ill put stuff for him
