Synchronisation and calendar are so sad on symbian

Can anyone try and check if the new Nokia N-series phones have a calendar that can cope with time zone changes. I can't stand these shortcomings of symbian phones anymore. I know it's not the fault of the operating system but the reality is that I own a windows-based pocketpc and when I travel from central europe to the UK my appointments are correctly moved one hour ahead. I own two Symbian "smart"phones (a Nokia 6630 and a SE P910i) and both are unable to move appointments when the phone time zone changes. This is so sad. These "smart"phones ("dumb"phones in reality) are supposed to be tools for businessmen but they are actually toys when it comes to serious business functions. I wonder how they can hope symbian will expand in the usa where every company has offices in different time zones.

Anyway: can you please try if this basic thing now works on a N70? Thanks!

I can understand your frustration so I tested the N70 based on the following scenario:

Created an appointment for today at 10am till 11am.
Then changed the phone time from GMT to GMT+02.
Checked the calendar and no change to the appointment time.

My recommendation would be to find a 3rd party calendar application that will support change of time zones and automatically adjust if the phone time zone is amended or give you the ability to change the time zone within the application.

Another good idea is to feedback to manufacturers your frustration, how do they know if no one tells them.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I recieved my Voda N70 on Saturday, this is my first Smartphone.
I have been trying to figure out the features by reading the manual
and on my own. But I was surprised at quite a few missing features
compared to the Nokia 6230 which I have been using for a year now.

The most disappointing features that I find lacking are:

1) The "To-Do" list. In 6230 I could set reminders/alarms for my to-do
entries, which I can't do on the N70!!

2) In the calendar you can only have three types of entries:
Meeting, Memo and Anniversary. The 6230 had more than that,
including the very useful "Phone Call" which will remind you to
call someone and with just one click it also placed the call for you!!

Pleease can someone help/advise regarding the above two features.
I am even considering returning this phone.

PS: There are a few more features I find lacking, I will put the list
together hopefully very soon and post them on this forum when
I find some time and if I don't return this phone soon.

Thnx in advance for your help.

Cheers.

problem here seems to be to me compatability, reckon that's at the heart of it. Business tends to use ms with maybe linux servers to infuriate Microsoft, and so with their static corporates, supplying a regular chunk of the income, they now wish to tie the whole thing up, and allow devices to easily and seamlessley dock with one another. eg=p910i selects all contacts, or wants to send whole folder, via bluetooth to nokia n70. All that happens in 7 seconds is sent only last entry on contacts list=hopeless and yet they both operate Symbian? Wasn't MS supposed to release some of their code some time back? Well it seems to me that they did but not quite enough of it, meanwhile they are developing their own smartphone that will work with everything. Poor old Symbian I hope they rescue something.Mac uses Quark, or used to, pc uses Adobe wheather it's pc mac linux or whatever, the o/s has to talk to its brother, lets not copyright issues stand in the way of progress. And right now we need more access or more expertise in getting it, and into the game. My watch can do auto time adjustments and my phone ought to be able to access full internet and download capacity same as at home. I want to store all post codes, birthdays, .vcf formats, mp3,mpeg4,jpg etc, excel, word,pp,or similar, have an active calendar able to think, radio, push to talk, countdown timer..you sure additional software that works, not to mention windows address book etc..best regards g

A third party application (if it exists) most probably will give even more headaches to synchronise with a desktop. As far as I know, unlike MS ActiveSync third party applications on Symbian phones cannot take advantage of the native synchronisation software of the phone.

I told them and you will find my mail exchange with SonyEricsson below. But according to the people who run this place Symbian is a mile ahead.
