N70 missing features

15 replies · 6,434 views · Started 02 December 2005

Hi,

I recieved my Voda N70 on Saturday, this is my first Smartphone.
I have been trying to figure out the features by reading the manual
and on my own. But I was surprised at quite a few missing features
compared to the Nokia 6230 which I have been using for a year now.

The most disappointing features that I find lacking are:

1) The "To-Do" list. In 6230 I could set reminders/alarms for my to-do
entries, which I can't do on the N70!!

2) In the calendar you can only have three types of entries:
Meeting, Memo and Anniversary. The 6230 had more than that,
including the very useful "Phone Call" which will remind you to
call someone and with just one click it also placed the call for you!!

Pleease can someone help/advise regarding the above two features.
I am even considering returning this phone.

PS: There are a few more features I find lacking, I will put the list
together hopefully very soon and post them on this forum when
I find some time and if I don't return this phone soon.

Thnx in advance for your help.

Cheers.

1) You can use the Calendar for reminders/alarms. There might also be some applications available for such a thing. I've found this S60 apps catalog the easiest for searching for apps.

2) I'd like to have a Calendar reminder for making phone calls, too. It is unfortunate that such a thing isn't supported yet.

On the other hand, I'm sure there are lots of other features in the N70 that are missing in the 6230, and which you just haven't discovered & learned to appreciate, yet. 😉

Firstly thnx for replying.

Yes I figured that I could use calendar meetings with reminders to do the job.
But I was hoping for reminders on to-dos as a native feature.
The url you have provided points to the thread about timezone change
issues in calendar. Please provide the correct url for "S60 apps catalog".

Considering N70 is a smart phone, I feel let down by Nokia due to these
missing features.

Yes agreed lots of N70 features are not present in 6230, but that is the
whole point about getting new upgraded phones with higher specs!!
It is only fair to expect the good features of older models in new phone
models, plus lots of cool new features too 😉

Waiting for that URL...

Cheers.

Because I've migrated from a Nokia 9500 to a Nokia N70, I've noticed a few features missing?

Birthday reminders, Ok, so you can set a normal annual reminder, but that doesn't remind you how old someone will be (Even if they want you to forget), The earliest the calendar will go back to is 01/01/1980,

Also where's the voice recorder?

More options? IE, Shutter sound removal,

I like to tweak and change things, which I can't do on this new N70, :frown:

Carl,

Carl,

This is something all S40 phones has, and sadly is missing on all S60 units..

I agree with you, miss this function..

Hi,

I have been searching all over the net (including the S60 apps catalog)
and as yet have not found a 3rd party software that allows a reminder/
alarm to be associated to a task / to-do entry.

Have I overlooked some software or there is no such software out there?
Please do let me know if anyone finds such a software.

Cheers.

Try AquaCalendar or other 3rd party calendar app for todo alarms. Try SmartBirthday for birthday reminders.

Opps.. How did I miss it there?

Looked everywhere else but in Office, lol

Carl,

I recntly purchased the Voda N.70 and I also had a 6230 beforehand.

Another thing I have found missing (or can't find) is the auto keylock! I have found one that has a password feature.. but I just want plain old autokeylock without having to type a pin each time. Is this available?

I'm also having issues with the timezone setting (like many other symbian users).

I sync with outlook 2003 (exchange server) and I have meetings from sent from my timezone and other timezones. When the appointments sync tot he phone all of the ones in my zone are fine but the others sync to the senders timezone not mine. (eg: somone sends me a meeting for 1PM my time and 4PM their time - on my phone it will show up as 4PM my time - but it's fine in outlook)

I also miss the up down left right functions that the 6230 had (cal, sms, contacts, missed calls)

Any fixes to the above would be greatly appreciated.

There is a simple 'Auto Keypad Lock'. No pin required. Check out the freeware list compiled here in All About Symbian.

As for the directional key short cut, you can activate it if you do not select 'Active Desktop' function. The shortcut was assigned to the 5 short cun icons you can place on your 'Active Desktop'. Think better cos' you have five short cuts instead of 4 if assign to the directional key.

On top of these, you can change the applications assign to the left and right softkey and 'Gallery' button (the one with rotated 'square' below the 'cancel call' (red) button). But note that the left soft key will take a longer time to respond as it's also used for key lock.

cool thanks.

I noticed that there is a process running on my phone called 'auto keylock' but I just cant activate it.

i'll check out the freeware. Thanks for the tip.

Still having issues with the timezone/outlook sync. Nokia are looking into it but seem to be puzzled.

just downloaded

jjlkeylock_2_0

works perfectly. autostarts at bootup. and it's free!

what is good with S60 phones is when the features isn't on the phone you can just install it on. Like the missing keylocker for example, you just search for a freeware app and install it and you have an extra feature.
