Synchronising with Outlook

I'm very frustrated.
Had my N70 a while now, and I've sync'd with the PC, done back ups and everything the |Nokia PC Suite allows without any problems.

Anyway, I was on the PC and noticed that my Contacts had a lot of duplicates, so I decided to have a tidy up.
I now have 163 contacts on my PC.

Had a look atthe N70 and noticed the same... lots of duplicates.

I decided to synchronise them to get it all tidy rather than sit on the phone and try to do it. So I adjusted the settings to sychronise from Outlook to phone.

For some unknown reason, I now have only 80 contacts on the N70!? Still got 163 on the PC.

Now I was using BT, so whether thats an issue I'm not sure. Going to try the cable at the weekend!

I even deleted all mu contacts on the N70 and tried again. Still only 80.
Tried restoring from a Back-up 2 days ago (before I'd messed about) and still got only 80!

So basically, my question is - does anyone know how to get ALL of my 163 contacts onto my phone!!!

Cheers all

OK, I am not a Symbian User do bear with me, but I would suggest that the formatting of the contacts that are not being transferred is different in some way from the ones that are and the transfer software doesn't like it. Could be a Last Name/First Name thing, or maybe the number format, or something like that. Try and change one that doesn't work so it is identical to one that does and see whether it will sync.

Yeah, I guess that "could" be an issue.... I'll have a look tonight to see whether there is any difference...

Thanks

I sync a N90 with my PC. I'v got over 800 contacts. The synchronization works perfect. I'm using XP Pro, Outlook 2003, and PC Suite 6.6. Works on my PC and on my Laptop.

Well thats my point...
It has worked perfectly, but now isn't, and i can't work out why???????:icon13:

I'm using XP Home, Outlook 2002 (with SP3) and Nokia PC Suite 6.6........ but it's having none of it!

Did you delete your PC-Suite profile, and recreated it? Are your settings correct?

I don't know if this helps. Give it a try.
Create a backup contact-folder. Copy all your contacts to this folder. Just to be sure to loose no data.

Export all your contacts in a file (e.g. *.csv), delete your contacts, then import your contacts from this file. Sync again!

Haven't tried that yet.

I have saved my updated contacts on the PC in a seperate folder already, so i might just follow your instructions.
Can you confirm the below is the best way forward.

Delete Nokia PC Suite.
Delete Contacts in Outlook
Re-Install Nokia PC Suite
Import the contacts file in Outlook
Delete Contacts off the mobile
Synchronise.

One thing I have noticed when using the Nokia PC Suite - Every time I BACKUP to the PC, it fails to back up the following file:

C:/System/Data/Contacts.cdb

Does this mean that Nokia PC Suite is not actually backing up my contacts?

Thanks

If Contacts.cdb backup fails, then the contacts are not being backed up properly.

Why that fails, I don't know. I usually do the PC Suite backup immediately after rebooting the phone so that there are no open apps, or anything like that (except for anything that starts automatically).

Cheers N/A, worth a try I guess!

So damned annoying, but I wonder if thats not a coincidence.
The fact that contacts.cdb is failing and Outlook isn't syncing properly!!

Think I'll do as suggested, and wipe the contacts from both phone and PC.

Then Re-boot mobile
Re-install Nokia PC suite
Import my contacts

And then give it a go.... if that doesn't work...well, not sure what to do really?!?!?!
