but I cannot figure out a way to shange the alarm sound, (or the tone)
it only beeps (thats how it was from the start) . How do I change it?

On the N-Gage it is, unfortunately, fixed to the beep. It can be changed on phones with newer versions of S60 (Series 60), but not on the N-Gage, or other phones based on S60 1st Edition (S60 1.2).
Also, the N-Gage cannot be updated/upgraded to a newer version of S60.
