Hi all.
I'm pretty new to Symbian and brand new to the forum.
Please humour me if I'm being daft.
Very pleased with my N70 but the shutter noise and always-on flash are annoying.
I read a thread about the shutter noise and downloaded photorite - hey presto. No more shutter noise.
However, neither Photorite or the standard software seem to be able to turn off the flash.
Even with flash set to OFF, it lights up (less brightly) whenever I take a snap and is always on when shooting video.
Is it possible to switch the light off and/or can anyone recommend any 3rd party app that will do it?
Cheers

Only way to get rid of the flash is to stick a label over it,
I'm also annoyed about the shutter sound, one way of getting rid of it is to set warning tones to off, but now I don't get a battery low warning sound, :frown:
Can't win,
Carl,
Cheers for the reply Carl,
As I said, Photorite lets you get rid of the shutter noise (and keep other warning tones active). I've only dowloaded the 'Free to try' version so it may expire at some point.
Surely, with the flexibility of a Symbian OS there must be an app out there which gives more control (especially the annoying flash).
I'm pretty sure a mate had a photo/video app on his 6600 a year or two back that was much better than the standard software.
Someone must have an answer to this??
Help please........
you can turn off the flash easily when taking a photo by going to options->image setup->flash-> off
and the shutter sound you can turn silence by putting your phone in silent mode.
Setting the phone to 'Silent Mode' by selecting a profile with warning tones OFF does silence the shutter noise but also stops any other warning tones such as battery low (as already mentioned in this thread). Not an ideal solution.
Switching flash OFF via Otions -> Image Setup etc stops the BRIGHT flash but the light still activates when you take your snap. Switch Flash OFF as you described then point the main camera at yourself and take a pic. You'll see the light (no pun intended).
Anyone out there know how to switch it off?

This is a result of privacy laws in certain countries that require this dim light be lit so your subject will know you are taking a picture. There is no way to disable it as it is built in to the function call of Symbian OS to execute shutter action.
Problem solved (not exactly but it clears things up).
Suppose it makes sense really.
Didn't think about privacy laws.
Do they apply in the UK?
Thanks for the answer EinZtein.
I'm not sure where exactly, but I do know that Nokia and other phone manufacturers were pressured by many government agencies as well as private business's.
