Problem with INternet Settings on 9300

I have an unlocked 9300 and have been trying for some time to get MMS working. Two odd things seem to be happening:

1 - I am trying to set up a connection with the (local) name Picture Messaging. However the phone insists on calling it Picture Messaging x, where x is a number. If I create a connection, delete it, then attempt to recreate it, then x is incremented by one. In other words connections I have deleted have not been completely forgotton by the phone, which then tries to help by allocating a name that it thinks is unique.

2 - I have an Internet Settings configuration called Picture Messaging 3 which, despite the fact that I created it, cannot now be deleted as the phone says it's read-only!

Anyone know how to get round these?
