Hello, I want to buy the new Nokia N80 in Europe, but I want to use it in Japan, so I want to know if I can read and write Japanese characteres and what I need to do to make it possible.

You would need to have a version with Japanese language support pre-installed. I don't think they're sold outside Japan, and service centers in Europe probably do not have access to Japanese language firmware versions (and you can't just add/install new language support on your own).
So, I suppose you might have to wait for either Vodafone KK or DoCoMo to offer that model in Japan (might never happen).
not to mention that the N80 is not out in Europe either yet....
