Hard to say. Do you know someone else with a compatible phone & does your MMC cause the same behaviour on their phone?
Do you have an USB card reader you can use to see if there's anything that appears strange on the card?
Can you reformat the card first (in another phone, compatible digital camera, or the USB card reader)?
