Anyone had any luck converting vid clips on PC to mp4 which play in decent quality on the N70?
I've used Windows Movie maker to convert .wmv files to .avi and I've run through 'Super' from 'Fever'. The results are never playable on the phone.
Only success I've had is with 'ImToo3GP' (a trial version) which gives playable files but they are very small, low quality 3GP movies.
SmartMovie has been mentioned but seems to require an additional player app' installing on the phone and extra Xvid/DivX codecs.
There must be peeps out there making nice neat mp4s which will play in good qual' on the pre-installed RealPlayer.....
Convert to mp4 (again)
Managed to solve the problem, using the LATEST version of SUPER (the previous version didn't work for some reason) which is freeware and available from http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html (download link at bottom of page)
It has tons of settings, perhaps you can find better ones, but I find best results from setting it to:
Container: MP4
Video: MP4
Audio: AAC
Then video settings:
Size: 352x288
Aspect: 4:3
Frame/Sec: 15
Then set the bitrate to what you desire, 128kbps will produce about a MB per minute of video but is rather blocky on moving scenes, 144 is a little better, about 7meg for a 5min vid, but if you really want to impress your friends do it at 192kbps, it really makes a difference, very sharp in all but the fastest moving scences, about 9meg for 5 mins. Obviously, the higher you set it, the bigger the file, the better the quality, not sure what the upper bitrate limit the N70 can support however.
As for audio, its just preference, I tend to use 44100 at 96kbps for music videos, 22050 at 64kbps for voice (like TV programs).
Hope this is of help to some people.
Enjoy watching yor favourite films on your N70!
Cheers for the info.
I'm in work tonight (lucky me!!) but got my laptop and can use work's super-fast t'internet to pull in anything in no time.
Will do some playing later if I get the chance.
I'll try your settings and maybe fiddle with them and post the results if any good.
Happy festive season to all 😊

Is this software free from adware or worse things? I ask because I don't think a reputable company should have an anonymous e-mailer in the list of their products... looks more like a hacking team than a company...
The n70 only got a screen resolution of 176 by 208 pixels, why use that high 355 by 288 or what it was?
Tried 'new' SUPER and result is great.
Only used the settings quoted so far but the clip plays really well.May have to invest in a big MMC card....
Good point about the anon email software on the site, though all seems legit.
None of my anti ad/spy/virus software complained about SUPER and I've had no problems.
Also take the point about encoding in a higher res' than the phone screen.
Will try (in work again) upping the bit rate to find the max for the phone (unless anyone enlightens me first).
Thanks for the help and link😊
I'm fairly sure it's legit, I exchanged a few emails with the guy who wrote it with some suggestions for improvments and he was very open and friendly.
Passed through my Norton and Spybot fine, I can't see anything wrong with it at all.
As for encoding above the screen resolution, basically, laziness, these were the first settings I tried that worked, encoding at 176x144 on the old version of SUPER produced videos that wouldn't play on the N70, the new version doesn't support resolutions that low, I'll send the author a request that he adds such functionality back into future versions.
I can't get this to work at all! I've tried tons of different settings and when I put it on my phone Realplayer just plays the audio...
Any idea how to fix this?
I used these settings:
Container: MP4
Video: MP4
Audio: AAC
Then video settings:
Size: 352x288
Aspect: 4:3
Frame/Sec: 15
i downloaded this prog .. wanted to try it but it won't start .. as for now .. i'm using ImTOO3GP and i'm quite happy with it .. after playing a lot with it i found a great setting that comes out with a small size .. i only use 176x144 res BTW ..but i still got a problem ..
sometimes .. music video clips has a 1-2 seconds delay .. you already heard the word but lips still ain't moving? how do i fix that? is that a known prob with "Super" too? thx in advance ..
thanks for sharing the SUPER programme.. but i manage to convert to 3gp only cos' MP4 didn't work in my N70.. don't know why.. but 3gp works realyl well. i set the bitrate to 200+ (for video) and the quality comes out well.. around 50MB+ only for a Elmo show in VCD (for my daugther).
i'm only using 3GP too .. small in size, great in quality .. as for the delay .. i manage to fix it ..
converting music vids from mpg / avi etc. to 3GP was a pain in the ass cuz i always had that so called 2 second delay .. but if converting ipod/psp ready music vids (mp4) .. no delay .. so what i did is .. it takes a lot of time i know but .. i converted all vids to ipod/psp format first then converted it to 3GP .. problem solved :icon14: 😉
Absolute Genius.
Ive had loads of problems with this. 3gp was poor but thanks to the post above from SebBelcher I downloaded the super software and MP4's play fine, really good quality converting the *.vob files on original DVD's - fantastic.
I used the standard settings he recomended but there are loads of others for perfecting the finished result - they all worked.
Thought I wouuld never get there - cheers mate
