Things seem to be quiet here on the P990i, anyway Stuff magazine UK have said on their web site that the "990i should be wending its way in to British shops no later than February"

I think its more likely to be March. We will have a review shortly(ish) once we have a unit to review.
I know there's a million different supposed launch dates. Yes, we're all eager beavers. This only adds fuel to the fire...

SonyEriccson have just confirmed that the P990i will not be launched during 2006Q1, but launch has slipped to 2006Q2

Sony Ericsson themselves are saying this in a recent press release: "The P990 will be commercially available in Q2 2006." (= no earlier than April 1st, but also not later than June 30th, if their plans don't change before then, that is).
Spoke to Sony Ericsson today. They told me release date is June 06.

Like loads of others I am badly due an upgrade, and my battery life on the 900 is down to five or so hours and I don't really want to shell out on a new one.

Jeez... it gets worse and worse... by the time it's released it'll be as worthy as a Nokia 6110... the delay is longer than the delay on the P800...
... I really liked my P800 but I was charmed away from it thanks to the keyboard on the Nokia 9500... which in some terms is lovely, but in some terms it's just not up to scratch... and when I heard that the P990i was delayed I decided to try the O2 XDA Exec.... which now is racking up �40 GPRS bills because it's IMAP implementation sucks.... and that's only when it's holding the charge...
... There must be something better out there.. Can the P990i be that, the day it finally is released.... :con? 😮
I am so upset that my P900 has finally given up, and as a temporary measure I stupidly opted for N80 due to the P990 delay. IMHO, the N80 is no match for the P990, I just wish SE would get their acts together.
is it only me or is it that the screen of the p990 is smaller than that of the p910? i'm thinking this because of the unremovable keyboard in the p990!!!

I seem to remember that the P990 screen is indeed smaller than the P910 screen...
The P990s screen is not much smaller than the P910 - in fact, it's more or less the same size! Check out ww.mobile-review.com if you're not sure.
Well, I had to do it, I sent an email to Sony Ericcson and told them that I'm so disappointed with the P990s design and STUPID keyboard on the screen, that I'm not considering waiting for the Nokia N93.
Yes, it will be sad, because since 2003, I have owned the P800, P900 & now the P910. I feel like JulesG (long time no see), I'm on my second screen for my P910 and my battery only lasts one day max now, when making a few calls & bluetooth active when I'm driving.
I'm extremely disappointed with the P990s design, hopefully the phone look different when SE release it!!! :con?

What's wrong with the keyboard? To me a keyboard is a must - and I would love a Psion Revo with todays technology, but I can't get that and the Nokia 9500 isn't very good either... nor the O2 Exec... so the P990i is to me as good as it gets.. :redface:
I write on my display and have NEVER used the keyboard on the flip of the
P910 - that's why I had to replace my first display!
You should learn how to 'write' on a P9XX - then you'll never ever need a keyboard again. It's really not that difficult, I gave my P800 to my sister-in-law and she figured it out in 10 minutes.

Erhmm.... I can write on the screen, and of all character reconition software, the P800's was the best so far - but with the Psion Revo keyboard I was able to use all my fingers, just as I'm typing right now on a normal keyboard - not even writing on paper with a normal pen beats the touch typing speed....
Typing on a keyboard with two thumbs is still quick,... I don't know if it's quicker than the character recognition, but with the P990i you have all options, from T9 to keyboard, even BT keyboards - all good IMO.
It seems, finally, that the P990i is here! Well, in Latvia anyway.
Several of the internet phone vendors are selling with prices, which, I gather means that you must be holding stock. Prices range from 469-489Lat, which is pretty much exactly the same in Sterling.

Sold for 500Lat with a contract. Would have bought it, but I'm due two upgrades from Vodafone here, so even if it is in the same price range, I should get it cheaper here by selling my soul back to Ferrari F1's sponsor.
I also note that the Sony Ericsson site has changed from "coming soon" to "available now", so even the laggards at Vodafone "rebranding" department have to admit it exists now...
