Nokia 7610, PC Suite: "Cannot authenticate the phone" problem

I bought and installed a bluetooth device. IVT Corp. Bluesoleil. I installed the software first, followed the instructions, restarted the pc and plugged in the BT device when instructed. It works. I can send files to and from the phone to the PC and vice versa. 😊

Then I downloaded the latest version of PC Suite from the Nokia website - specifically choosing the version for the Nokia 7610. Again I followed instructions carefully installing, then re-starting pc. Then after waiting for everything to settle down, I go to the "Get connected" icon of PC Suite, selecting the IVT Bluesoleil Bluetooth connection and let it search for the phone. It finds the phone. - so far, so good. BUT....... when I click on the phone and select "Next" it immediately gives me the message "Cannot authenticate the phone". 😡

I have spent a week trying everything. Multiple un-installs, and re-installs. I have tried installing PC Suite and Bluetooth in a different order. I have tried installing from the supplied disks (older software versions), I have downloaded and installed the latest versions from IVT and Nokia websites.

I always re-start the pc and the phone, but always I get to the same point: PC Suite, and the bluetooth device both find the phone OK, but PC Suite won't allow me to run their file transfer software of synchronise or anything else until a phone is validly selected. But I always get the same message when selecting the Nokia 7610 Cannot authenticate the phone.. Incidentally I get the same message if trying to connect to a 6600, but this may be normal as the 6600 should have a different version of PC Suite..

Here is my configuation:

Operating system:
Microsoft Windows XP
Build 2600
Service Pack 2

Bluetooth stacks:
IVT Bluetooth stack
Version 1.6

Microsoft Bluetooth stack
Version 5.1.2600.2180

Bluesoleil (c) IVT Corporation
Bluesoleil 1.6.1.4 Release 050606
Stack Version 05.04.05.20050408

Nokia PV Suite 6.70.22

Norton AntiVirus 2005

Microsoft AntiSpayware Beta1 vesrion 1.0.701

Surely Nokia have tested PC Suite with the Nokia 7610 before releasing it? I went down to the mobile phone shop and they told me everyone has problems with PC Suite and the Nokia phone, and I should forget about trying to fix it, as it can not be done. I can't believe that.

Anyone got any ideas? Thanks in advance.....😉

Have you tried to activate Microsoft Bluetooth instead and use that? I only have one Bluetooth sw in my PC, I just could not get 2 to work at the same time.

Yes I tried to use the Microsoft drivers with the IVT Bluesoleil device , but can't seem to find out how to do it. If I un-install the IVT Bluuesoleil software, and plug in the BT device, it asks me to search for drivers or to install them authomatically. Either way, it does not find the drivers, so presumably the Microsoft ones are incompatible with the IVT Corp Bluetooth device,

Hi!

I got Nokia 6680and using Latest PC Suite with WiN XP SP2. I use Bluetooth to connect my phone with pc. Today when i was trying to transfer my data to PC, i got the same error messege. But i think i am lucky because i solved the problem with a simple task.

I suggest you to Follow these steps.

1)- from PC suite uninstall option select the REPAIR option.
2)- If repair is successfuly completed then you r done, goto to step 3 if receive an error during repair process.
3)- Unstall PC-Suite Completely.
4)- Download PC-Suite Uninstall utility from Nokia Site and run.
5)- Restart the pc and reinstall latest version of Nokia PC suite.

Good Luck
