Ok,
so, while i wont comment on the X2, I can let you know how to set up the X.
First, you need to create the access point on your PC.
If you use IRDA then goto connections/faxmodem on the phone. Connect via IR
PLace phone in range of laptop IR and then when the phone connects windows should install a standard Irda modem.
If you use BT you should already have a bluetooth modem installed in windows, simply turn BT on in the X.
So, with that covered go to control panel -> phones/modems, and goto the modem tab.
Either the IR or BT modem will be there. Click on teh modem, click properties. Goto the advanced tab and then you'll need to enter an advanced initialisation string for the access point.
AT+cgdcont=1,"IP","apn"
you will need to substitue apn for the ISP gateway oif the network you will use. for example, vodafone UK would look like this
AT+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet"
and O2 would be ( i think )
AT+cgdcont=1,"IP","mobile.o2.co.uk"
so, with that sorted, if your using IRDA, you then need to check your connection. goto the diagnostics tab of the modem and click query modem. If you see some AT commands and repsonses below then its good to go.
With BT you would need to go into the bluetooth manager SW., find the phone, pair, then goto into the dial up networking profile to connect to the phone. Enter the user name and password of the access point and enter the number as *99#. Dial and you should connect
With irda you'll need to create a new network connection. go into network places, click on teh left to view network connections, then click on eth left new connection. Name it whatever you want, the only import things are that you select the standard IR modem, the number to dial is *99# and that when you get to dial the connection you enter the correct user name and password.
Phew. Sorry if that bounces around too much from BT to IRDA.......... Good luck. let me know how it works out.
