Opera mini full screen utilization?

Hello everyone,

I'm trying Opera mini and finding it quite impressive. However, I have a "situation" here. I don't have the whole width of my 9300 screen covered!!! The vertical scroll bar is not all the way right (as in Steve's review. Opera is using the whole screen and the "O" is at the top right, but when it comes to browsing and while in the tools menu, it's just covering part of the screen (the rest is white space with the red bars above and below!). Hitting the "*" will fill the screen vertically but not horizontlaly. Any ideas?

Chr * should do the trick. Hmm, about Opera Mini not covering the full width of the screen, that is a common bug I think. I also experience that from time to time, and I have to close Opera Mini with a task manager and restart it to get rid of the blank space on the right.

Actually, I did not find a place, here or elsewhere, to list bugs and annoyances related to Opera Mini when operated on Nokia Communicators. Perhaps AAS80's webmaster may open a dedicated forum?

For example, when I click on a hyperlink that is supposed to trigger download of a non-HTML file (a PDF doc for instance), not only Opera Mini freezes, but also the cover screen turns off until I restart the Communicator.

And I would like to list other small annoyances, specially related to ergonomic adaptation to Communicator's specific design.

So it's a common problem! I second the suggestion of a series 80 support forum. Until that happens, I'm hitting the "Uninstall" key 😊

Thanks guys.

I think it would be better to use Opera's own support forum for that. At least then we would have a chance of them 'listening'.

Definitely a bug, but remember that you can't actually download anything with Opera Mini - it is only a Java MIDP browser. You need to use the default Opera browser for that.

Yes, I find the UI annoying too, but again it is not a native Symbian app. There is probably only so much the folks at Opera are willing to do to customise their cross-platform Java browser for each specific model.

Btw., Opera Mini is officially available now: http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/operamini/ and there appears to be an updated version available for download. I'm trying out v.1.2.2960 right now. Unfortunately that screen width problem remains... Actually it seems to be even worse in this version, as closing it down with a task manager and restarting doesn't seem to get rid of it. Argh.

I agree... and disagree: their support is some kind of mess, and Communicators have their own problems, as they are much more multi-purpose terminals than most other Java phones.

I understand Opera Mini was designed to be "all-phone-compliant", but I was thnking perhaps the product is designed in such a way that the GUI may be adapted to this or that terminal.

Well, I think they have tested it on each model, but it was designed according to MIDP 2.0 guidelines (the advanced version). It's written in the Communicator download section that; "Known issues with Opera Mini

The menu softkey is the top-most of the right softkeys". Which probably has to do with the MIDP 2.0 integration in the 9x00. I think it's fair to assume that they don't want to put much extra work into adapting the UI according to Communicator's unique design. After all, it's free of charge and meant for more basic phones (which all have a pretty similar UI design) without a real HTML browser.
