Have installed, see the memory card icon - so it appears to work fine. BUT can i view the messages i originally had on the phone itself now? or are they lost forever. I can't see an option to switch back to view messages stored on the phone.
Also - do i need to re-install my MMS settings?

Thanks waqar for the ms drive app have been searching it for really long time.... thanks dude

Is there anyway after installing this program - to see the messages you had stored on the phone b4 hand??? I had at least 1300 messages saved on the phone and can't see them now...
if not what files/folders on the phone memory do i delete as these msg's are useless and are taking up valuable space on my phone memory.

Cheers

To get back to your old messages do this:

1) Turn off phone. (THIS IS A MUST TO FLUSH THE RAM)
2) Remove battery then MMC card, refit battery.
3) Start phone and browse your phone messages, delete as required.

As for there locations its:

C:\system\mail

The contents can be copied to an MMC so transfer messages from phone memory to the card so that when the convert application is ran all messages are now seen on the MMC and free's up phone memory.

Delete files at your OWN risk!!! Normally Fexplorer is used to move files around. If you do the above steps 1-3 then when you turn off, reinsert MMC card you MUST re-run the application to point it back to the MMC messages.

Duke! What if we first make "e:\system\mail" Folder manually by pasting "c:\system\mail" in the right location and then apply the patch? As the guide says, I first applied the patch, and then copied all the contents of Mail Folder at C:\System to E:\System\Mail but it didn't work: I can't see my Old SMS via Messaging Application. :con?

Mini Tutorial:-

1. Open fexplorer and go to mail>index.dat and press 1 after highlighing it(it is shortcut for copy)
2. Press menu and open go to memory icon and open. select create backup and immediately go to fexplorer and go to e:/ and press 7(paste).
3. now press menu and again go to backup and stop it or let it continue and delete it afterwards from e:/ backup.
4. now copy mail folder and paste it in e:/system/ and replace the index.dat with that in the E:/system/mail/.
5. open msvdrivE and enjoy. thats it
6. to confirm rename phone memory's mail as mail1. this should happen now if u followed the steps well.

Moving the contents from the phone memory to the card before running the app did work for me, and "should" work for everyone, or you can run the app and copy the files afterwards, BUT!!!!!!!! You MUST then pull the battery and power down the phone to flush the memory, just like a pc the phone holds temporary lists in memory of what it last knew and you need to refresh these. Otherwise all should be good, i did once write in this same forum all about this, someone might beable to find that original thread to as it details similar to here.

Duke.

PS Just looked and in MAY 2005 on this thread which is still on the main page:
http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/36451/&page=2
I detailed very similar to above for how to do this then, help's to read all current threads 😉

So, are you saying there is no need to copy the index file individually? Just copy the whole mail folder C: and paste it in D: would be sufficient?

Well, I followed the instructions which Rulirahm provided...But after pasting the index file, as I tried to install the patch, I got an error message and the MMC got corrupted.
The patch once worked on my 3230 before on switching the storage drive of messages; but as I was not able to get access to my old messages, I simply uninstalled it and subsequently the storage drive changed back to C:.
Then Rulirahm suggested these instructions (which was orginially provided in another forum)...So I followed the steps exactly as it said which ended up corrupting my MMC. Maybe I'm missing something here :con?

Yes when i copied mine it was everything, the whole folder tree, no point copying single items, you might beable to put the MMC in a pc card reader and do a scan and repair on it, PC's treat it as a small drive so can fix issues on them.

Then you can do the copy yourself before you install the program and once the files are in place install and run the program and everything should come back as before, i did look at the other instructions and to be honest i wasent very impressed with how they were detailed.

If for 'msg saver', then it shoul b an easy way, right? Just send it to ur phone (.txt) and will stay in ur "messaging".

Thanks Ruli. It's a gr8 relief. Not needed to install that PC - suite or anything. It works really gr8. Thanks for the tute. Keep such tweakings coming

ok , i'm lost now , i need help.

the msvdrivee.sis can save my msgs in card memory rite ?..

so , wat are the steps for the old msgs to be save to card memory ??

is there a way that i can switch from phone to mmc memory and vice versa?

it seems that this app cannot do that

pls help, tnx

Its not simple to switch between MMC messages and phone messages, to switch to phone messages turn off the phone and remove the MMC card and turn the phone on, this then changes the settings back to phone memory, turn off and replace the MMC card and restart phone and run the application to switch to MMC messages. As i said no easy.

If you just want to move your old messages over and have NO messages yet on the MMC card then you can copy/move the mail directory with fxplorer from phone memory to MMC card in the correct folder and all your messages after a reboot will turn up. the power OFF and ON is a MUST!!! Its a simple process to do all of this and theres more than a few repeats of the process in this forum alone by myself and others.

I have done everything but cant recover my lost msgs after msvDriveE software. I have 2 folders in MyFolders and had almost 1350 messages those were very important 😞 I also installed FEExplorer.

This is very important. Please please i request that anybody can help me to get back my lost messages. After installing msvDriveE so many folders and strange files have been created in c:\system\mail but what to do with those if i cant have my messages back 😞
