I wanted to buy this memory card but arent sure of the quality and compatability. Its a 1GB MMCMobile RS DV (Dual Voltage) MMC card from http://www.mobymemory.com/proddetail.asp?prod=rsdvmmc1024%5Fmmcmobile%5F001
they say it is compatable with the n70 but i dont know. Also has anyone used the brand before as i have never heard of them. Are they a reputable company and do they work well in the N70. Thx for ur help
Memory Card
Moby are a reputable company, i have used one of their products in my old 6630.
However, in my opinion, buying a 1GB card is asking for trouble, for a few reasons:
1. They are pretty new to the market, so compatability/bugs may be an issue.
2. Very expensive.
3. In my experience, the larger the card with alot of stuff on it, the slower the phones memory card functions run, like gallery, music player, etc. (My N70 takes a while to list songs when my 512Mb card is full and no time at all when only a few songs on it, so with a full GB, it could be 30 seconds of waiting)
My advice to you, and others may not agree, is to buy 2 x 512mb cards, as that way, if the card corrupts (which they have a habit of doing at times) you dont lose everything in one go and its not as expensive to replace, and lets be honest, slipping a RS-MMC into you wallet doesnt take a lot of space now does it.
Hope any of this helps.
Thx for the advice and yea i was thinking that a lot of stuff on the card will slow it down- as i have my 64mb card full and it kinda slows it down! Thx for the info about the site - has anyone used the brand MMCMobile in there N70? does it work?
MMCmobile is not a brand, its the name used for Dual Voltage Reduced Size MMC (DV RS-MMC).
The brand i have in my N70 is by DaneElec, i brought it from Expansys.co.uk, and i have had it for as long as the N70 (2 Months) and had not 1 problem with it, and it was a decent price too.
If you click the link on the first post it will take you to the site where im looking to buy it from. As far as i can tell the brand of that particular card is MMC Mobile, unless im mistaken.
As MMCmobile is a trademark owned by the MultiMedia Card Association (http://www.mmca.org), I'd say it is just an unbranded (no manufacturer name specified) MMCmobile type card.
I got a Kingston 1Gb MMC card off Ebay for less than that (41 inc postage from Hong Kong). I know some have had issues with Kingston 512Mb cards but this one for me has been faultless so far, its currently got about 600mb of MP3s on it plus TomTom (100Mb) and a few other bits, and there's no noticable difference in phone performance.
I can understand the worry about it getting corrupt etc and losing more data but the card contents dont change much on a day to day basis and most of the contents I have on my PC etc anyway, so I just back it up once in a while (which does take a while on USB v1!)
Has someone got a 1GB Toprams memory card for the N70? I got one in ebay and I am waiting for it; would like to know if it has given problems...
One of my friends is happy with using 1Gb dv-rsmmc from Kingston, and the maker provides Life-time warranty. Of course you need to check the location
of the dealer or supplier at your area.
Would you guys go for an unbranded card or pay that little bit extra for the brand and the quality that comes with it?
I got a 512mb DaneElec from expansys too same as sToKiE, no problems with mine so far.. been spot on and very good price... i'd recommended that.
:icon14: I have 3 1Gb rsDvMMC - MMC Mobile, and I had buy from Mobymemory.
One in N70, other in 3230, and other in 9500.
They work fine, and quickly.
I buy another 2Gb MMC for N-Gage. Work well in N-Gage, but not work in 9500... always freezes the device!
The delivery service of Mobymemory are reliable and great (England to Portugal).
That is my experience...
Just to tell about my topram rs-mmc 1 GB, it works fine in my N70, with a card memory reader ive placed all the content of the card that came with the devide to my topram card and also transfered more than 150 mp3 songs, the phone is fast as always and is working very well, so there is not problem if you put a 1 GB memory card in your phone.
can i ask where u got ur mem card from vjleon11 thx dude
Sure dude, I got it from ebay, the card is working fine in my phone, and if you go on ebay, look for the memory card that sellers give with a memory card reader for free, that way you can take all you have in your memory card (including applications that came with from manufacturer)
