Slow but Steady - the 9300i Reviewed

Ewan's had the newest in the Nokia communicator line, the 9300i, for a while now. Here's his real-world-tested full review. Summary? Solid and stable, but slow in places and the less said about the joystick the better...

Read on in the full article.

I've had my 9300 for more than a year now, and although I'm not crazy about that tiny joystick either, you do get used to it. It also becomes less overly-sensitive after some use. As far as cursor speed in The Web browser is concerned, that can easily be adjusted in Control panel. I've also owned the 9500, and although I found that joystick better for general navigation and games etc., I've found that the 9300's joystick actually works better as a cursor in the Web application.

OhI played with all the settings in the Web app for the cursor stick. The problem is, I suspect, the contact switches for the different directions don't have enough of a gap between them. If a little bit of friction as a delimiter could have been introduced, then it would work. I'll put up with a week or so of bedding in for a phone, but "less sensetive over time" doesn't cut it!

Each to their own though

Thanks, caught now, it points to this article.

What a great phone!

I have a Nokia 9300, Nokia 9500, SE P900 (nice but no FAX or EDGE), SE P910 (nice but no FAX or EDGE) and find the Nokia 9300 functions features and size the best (would like WIFI).

Yes the 9300 - can be a bit slow at times - but what other alternative can provide: BlackBerry connectivity, POP email access, FAX capabiliy, very usable keyboard, wide sreen, excellent battery life, great phone quality, EDGE and a full range of bluetooth features? I depend on these features everyday as I use the 9300 as business tool.

Missing items as compared to Microsoft based products are: a VPN solution which works with CISCO and no non-beta CITRIX support! These items will hurt Nokia offering for business. Many Microsoft phones support these items right out of the box!

I wished I had a 9300i - where are they available? FLG - Spokane, WA

Any information on availablity of the 9300i anywhere in the world today? Thanks - FLG>>

should be available in the next few weeks sim free and then in the following weeks on some operators

9300i has been available in Finland for about 2 weeks now. It costs about 650 euros simfree.

=)juha

Given that the 9300i is a 9300 with wifi might it not have been a good idea to review the wifi functionality rather than rerunning a review of the 9300 ? Battery consumption , signal strength. Something shirley ?
