I just discovered that todo categories are not synchronised...
This is really pissing me off now. The phone can't sync outlook notes. So many people suggest the workaround of using todo lists instead. But it doesn't sync todo list categories so this solution is useless for most people!
Any third party solution is going to involve manually exporting, transferring, and re-importing files every time you need to move from phone to PC. But that wouldn't be a real sync anyway because it wouldn't cope with changes on both machines.
I can't believe this phone is marketed as a serious organisational tool, yet there is no built in or simple third party way to synchronise any kind of categorised notes. Despite the fact that I have just spent the best part of 24 hours trying out various ways to get the phone working (don't get me started on the calendar either) I am probably going to return it and get a treo 650. Although I'm still hoping someone might suggest a simple way to solve the problem!
What makes me really sad is that I used to be an avid Psion 5mx user... Why oh why is this phone such a step backwards?

I share your frustration and puzzlement.
Before I bought my 9500 a little more than a year ago I read every review and document I could get my hands on because the 9500 did seem like it was going to be the successor to my Psions. Several long time Psion users announced that the 9500 was the true son of the 5mx and couldn't be bettered.
But none of that material I read ever mentioned that ToDo categories could not be supported and none mentioned that little horror of a feature that changes all the times in your Calendar if you change your home city.
Like you, I spent a lot of time trying to work around these problems and a fair bit of money on what I can only describe as half-baked third party Agenda/Project programs. I got nowhere.
A calendar/agenda function that cannot synchronize or support ToDo categories with Outlook is useless to anyone who has more than just a grocery shopping list to carry around in their calendar.
I've gone back to my Psions (5mx and Netbook) and carry a separate phone.
For machines that haven't been on the market for years the Psions still stand well ahead of the pack and I can see nothing on the horizon to replace them.
The only thing I now use the 9500 for is websurfing on WiFi around the house.
But ever the optimist I still check in on the various fora every once and a while in the faded hope that either Nokia or someone else has fixed the problems. I think I am wasting my time.

Check AquaCalendar for S80.
It doesnt cover synchronization of Categories inself, but have all tools to support it with Macros in Outlook.
Anyway it is much nicer than build-in calendar.
My calendar, to do lists etc Sync perfectly through blackberry. All completely wireless and more or less instant. Perfect!! 😊
You may have seen this new application which syncs with Exchange 2003. I have found the push email is good, but cannot sync my Calendar, and only once have I been able to sync my Contacts. For whatever reason the error messages in the RoadSync Log are pretty inconsistent. Nonethesless it is a great-looking application and ought to be quite a step forward for Symbian/Microsoft compatability.
However, despite trying since November 2004, I wasn't able to sync anything on PC Suite with my original-firmware-9500, so I suppose RoadSync is an improvement on nothing at all. I guess I have a continuing firmware problem which I intend to address by replacing my worn-out and rather bashed Communicator.
