Hi guys , just wondering if you could help me out with a few questions...
1. I have an old (1yr+) 256 mb RS-MMC which I bought for my previous phone (7610). In the N70 guide book it says only DUAL VOLTAGE DV-RS-MMC cards should be used in the phone, but I dont have a clue whether or not my old rs-mmc is compatible or not?
There are no markings on the old card stating the voltage. Would it be adviseable to not use my old rs-mmc in the n70?
Also if it ok to use it, should i copy all the content thats on the provided 64mb rs-mmc that came with the n70 onto my old rs-mmc so that all the apps. that came with the phone would be transfered?
Cheers guys
Chris.
The 256MB card for your old 7610 will not be compatible with your new N70. If your old card just has the logo RS-MMC then it will not be of the Dual Voltage type.
The types of card that will work with your N70 should have the description RS-DV-MMC or DV-RS-MMC or MMCMobile. Critically they should work at 1.8V as well as 2.8 to 3.0V. This new standard was created in order to maximise battery life for mobile devices such as phones.
Try looking at www.mobymemory.com and you will see that cards listed for the 7610 are specifically not suited for the N70. Try the categories down the left hand side of the web page.

Cheers for the reply Steve, unfortunately the answer I was expecting.
Nevermind, will probably just make do with the 64mb card for a while untill i need more space
Chris.
I have a related question to this - I'm in the same situation with the phones (although I haven't got an N70 yet). I understand that the N70 requires a DV rsmmc BUT will a DV mmc card work in the 7610 (running at the higher voltage I suspect)?
Thanks,
Russ

Yep, a DV-RS-MMC card should work without problems in the 7610.

Hey there, I wanna ask what happens when I insert a non-compatibloe Memory Card in my mobile? Does it affect the card or the mobile? I tried the 64 Card that came with my dad's 7610 on my n70 and it worked fine when I formated it....Thanks
Nothing happens (it just isn't visible). The card that came with the 7610, if works on the N70, was a compatible (dual-voltage RS-MMC), then (even if the 7610 doesn't require dual-voltage cards, Nokia's porbably only using dual-voltage cards to keep parts logistics simpler).
Is "RS-MMC" the same thing as "MMCmobile"? Nokia says RS-MMC is compatible with my N70, but in Kingston's website, there's the word "MMCmobile", no "RS-MMC" such thing.
Why the Kingston's website can't explain a little bit more, say, "...MMCmobile, also known as RS-MMC...", something like this..:frown:
Also, is Kingston or SanDisk's RS-MMC better? 😊
Edit:
I visit SanDisk website, it looks like RS-MMC and MMCmobile are different things, as SanDisk divides them into 2 main categories

MMCMobile is a faster standard equivalent RS-DV-MMC. So MMCMobile will work in an N70. I currently use a 1GB MobyMemory MMCMobile card in my N70 and it works a treat 😊
Steer clear of Kingston as they seem to have trouble working in N70's there's been many posts with owners having trouble. Sandisk would be better.
