Ok, so I just bought a TomTom Mobile 5 to go with my new new Nokia 6680. Fitted the card, up flashed the message "memory full, please close applications", and I couldn't open the tomtom application.
Took the whole thing back, got a new one, same thing happened.
Got on the phone to tomtom who eventually tell me to update software to 5.2, only problem is there is no space on the card, 122mb of 122mb available used.
So she tells me to delete a voice to free up some space, I try and do it via file manager on thre phone but no joy, I try and do it via the USB cable, no joy. So I go out and buy a card reader, the card reader seems able to open up MSP cards but not this rsmmc, it opens, closes, and continually tries to autoplay no matter what I do to the settings.
Oh yeah, neither card will open up in other 6680's either, and I have the latest software on the phone.
I really don't know what to do, I want to use TomTom, and I bought an older phone specifically because I thoght there would be fewer compatability issues compared to the N70, boy was I wrong about that
Help?
From reading some of the posts around here, I've come to understand that there are two kinds of memory in your phone, similar to the way you have both hard disk and ram in your computer. In order for TomTom to run, you have to have a good bit, I think I heard around 6MB, of "program memory" available on the phone, reagrdless of how much space there is on your storage card.
Install "Fexplorer" from here, http://www.gosymbian.com/dhscr/download/dwl_fe_uk.php?name=FExplorer
on your phone then you can delete anything you like.
A 128 meg card is too small for your phone anyway, get a 512 meg card and copy the software across from the Tomtom card. Plenty of space left then.
Hi,
A simple idiot-proof card check first though - are you sure it is a DV RS-MMC? 6680s (as 6630s) only read the dual voltage standard of card, and there is a finite list of those that work with these phones too. Check your card type and get a decent one from Mobymemory.co.uk or similar.
I am running TT5 on a 6630 on a 128mb card with no problems whatsoever. It takes up 122meg so unless you are going to install thousands of POI files and map overlays (which slow down the navigation anyway) a 128 card is ample.
I keep TT on its own dedicated card anyway because a) I am not using it every day and b) it takes up too much space on a 512mb/1gb card which eats into MP3 storage - I have a few 512 cards for music/movies/images/everyday use. I keep the TT card in the car with the GPS receiver so I've always got it when I need it 😊
TT runs entirely off the card memory (there are no .SIS files to install) so internal memory problems are not an issue (as you can see from the pic, I have only just over a meg of internal memory available and it's working fine).
Viewing your file structure in FExplorer or Profi Explorer you should have 9 folders with your TT suite as per the pic - absence of one of these will cause loading errors, you will either not get the app to start or it won't run properly.
Getting TT to open on your phone will be a start, you should at least get the icon in your menu once you have a decent card and all the right files. From what you're saying I'm sure you have a card rather than an application issue.
HTH,
Chris
