I just bought a new phone. And have some questions... pardon me for i'm not a techie 😃

1. Am i correct that the Presense, Position, PTT are preinstalled in the phone memory and can't be deleted?

2. I inserted my RS mmc into the phone (32MB), anything useful in it? Here's the list i got from application manager
- XML parser (expat)
- video editor
- try and buy
- setting wizard
- super impose
- slide show
- saga of stone
- nokia sensor
- proximiti toolkit
- photo editor
- mike 2 in 1
- lifeblog installer
- kodak mobile
- football crazy
- fifa 2005
-------------> all of these were listed in application manager excpet for those in red weren't listed (doesn't have icons) in the MMC
-------------> any site can u recommend where i can get infos regarding these applications that i might find useful?

3. Are my notes, calender, contacts, messages automatically saves in my phone memory? What if my memory got full because of the useful information i wanted to keep. Can i use my MMC card instead?

4. Is there a way to know the number of messages in inbox, outbox, sent messages, etc? I used to have nokia 3650 and most of the other fones indicates the number of mesaages saved...

5. REgarding joystick, I noticed the shortcuts to
UP: camera
Down: contacts
Left: new messages
Right: calendar
--------------> any way i can change those shortcuts?

6. i bought a new RS MMC 256mb. and as i was trasnfering the photos fr an old MMC, there's a new folder called _PalbTN (inside that folder are the same picutres from my folder) and it can't be deleted. How can i remove that?

1: Yes.

2: Whether anything is useful or not to you, is best determined by yourself. Try them & uninstall/remove what you don't want.

3: Yes, they stay in phone memory. On most comparable S60 based phones messages can be moved to the memory card, but not on the 3230.

5: Try menu > Tools > Settings > Phone... I don't remember if they can be changed on the 3230, though, but if they can, that's where it is done.

6: _PalbTN is for image thumbnails (automatically generated). They are not the same pictures, but smaller versions for the gallery thumbnails, in other words.

fawn, I have a 3230 also and I have some tips and comments for you:
1. Try to keep your phone memory free as much as possible. The total memory is 6 MB, but I recommend you to have around 4 MB free. I keep on the MMC the pictures, videos and mp3's. All the apps installed on the MMC too.
2. Unfortunately, the joystick shortcuts can't be changed. Rearrange the menu so you can access your apps faster.
3. Presence, PTT and Positioning are installed in ROM and they don't affect the phone memory.
4. You can delete all the _PalbTN folders from your phone memory/MMC using FExplorer but when you'll enter Gallery, the folder will appear again.
5. If you want to see how many SMS, MMS, Emails you have, simply read one and you'll see that in the right upper corner of your screen will appear the number of the message and the number of your total messages, (2/26 for example).

If you want to save your messages to notepad, use this app, it's freeware.

How in the world can you have 4MB free on your phone memory. I have a 512MB RSMMC card for my phone, and store everything on there - but can't seem to see what i can delete from the phone memory to create any more space than the 1.5MB i have free now. Before i discovered how to store my msg's on the memory card - i did have over 1300 mgs's saved in the phone - and can't view these now... how do I delete these from the phone memory? this might create some space.

BarraSpalding, I have in fact 5.1 MB free mem on the phone. All the apps that I have are installed on the 256MB MMC. My phone had few bugs when I bought it (couldn't receive anything via BT or IrDA, switched off frequently by himself 😡 ) so I had to give it a format 😮 . After I installed more than 30 apps on the MMC, the phone mem is pretty free. The E:\System folder has 16 MB, while C:\System has only 670 KB. BTW, an empty folder takes 1 KB so... delete the empty ones if you don't use it.

You are just like my brother, he has a 6670 and around 800 SMS's on it 😊 . If you want to delete them, use FExplorer and go to C:\System\Mail, enter the top folder and you'll see a list of folders named 0, 1 ... a, b, c, d, e, f. Enter these folders and delete the content. You'll have a big surprise after. Oh, make a backup copy before this, in case you delete something needed by the system.
