how to pass PHN-01Service Interruption , test

Hi ,
i will appreciate if someone can share there experiences for a similar
situation:

i am developing a full screen, game application. Since its runs always in a
full screen mode so it handles the visual elements that result from a system
events as below:

i) an sms/mms is received.
the audio tone is played as expected, no visual indicator is visible ,
if user put the game in background and goes to the phone's main
screen or App Launcher screen now the user will be able to see a message
dialog and a message icon.

ii) a scheduled alarm rings.
the user during game play is able to respond to the alarm dialog, can
"snooze" or "stop" the dialog. This dialog will appear on the game
screen.

iii) when a call is received,
the phone rings, my game automatically goes to background, user is able
to accept or reject the call, my game comes to foreground as soon as
the user has accepted or rejected the call.

iv) Connecting a Charger,
my app was in front , connect the charger , the charging dialog is
visible all fine.

Thanks,
David.

Hi David

The behaviour sounds fine except for SMS (i). The test criteria indicate
that you should pause the application and the SMS dialog should be
displayed.

What test criteria are that you're referring to? According to "Symbian
Signed Test Criteria" v2.0.0 "interface notifications occur as per normal
phone operation". On S60 devices, there's no dialog for an incoming SMS.

There is a dialog for unread messages; when a new message comes in it
shows in the unread messages dialog.

Even though the test says so; I think it is very bad user experience to
interrupt games with sms notifications. Imagine a person who gets 10s of
messages every hour, he/she will never be able to play a game in peace.

Hi,
Actually that dialog is only visible when you go to phone home screen , and
while any app is infront , we only see a small envelop indicator , but since
my game is a fullscreen , so this small indicator is not visible .

so would this let me pass the test ? this was the thats scrolling in my mind

Regards.

Test criteria v2.1.0
But you're right, the dialog only appears on the home screen - and the
criteria is "normal" phone operation.

Apologies, as per comments here you would pass as your behaviour effectively
matches every other here.
If the test house failed this on the basis of lack of message icon (very
unlikely), then I have no doubt you'd get a waiver.

Ah yes that is true, sorry I missed it. To be safe and to save
resubmission costs, you can apply for this waiver with the first
submission; just make it known to the test house that you are not
breaking any UI guidelines. I think I have read on these NGs that test
houses have failed apps for similar conditions and even more trivial
conditions like fonts used.
