Gallery crashes when using a 1gb mem card

I just got a 1gb mem card for my 6680 (firmware 4.04.07), ive put about 150 mp3s on the card, and now when Gallery attempts to search the phone for new files, it crashes. Why?

I'm not sure. I ever heard that with Nokia 3650, 1GB MMC works just fine. Have u try with safe mode?:

I cant seem to get safe mode to work, holding down the pencil button while booting doesnt do anything. So its not because of the large amount of data on the mem card?

You basically need to work out whether it's the phone's firmware or the card that's at fault. Backup the card's contents to hard disk, reformat it IN THE PHONE and then run Gallery again. OK now? Now try copying back on your file load. What happens now when you run Gallery?

Thanks for the idea, I thought this would work, but of course it didnt, the problem continues. All other 3rd party programs work with no problems, its just gallery that doesnt work. Is it my firmware? I thought it was the most recent (4.04.07)

Are you saying that Gallery didn't work, even with the card totally wiped???

Steve

oh sorry i forgot to explain that, yes it did work when the card was wiped

My guess is that there's either a bug in Gallery (to do with the number of MP3s) - though this is fairly unlikely, as I've not heard of it before, or that there's a file on your card with some sort of corruption in its name or content, that is causing Gallery to barf.

If I were you, I'd put all content on the card EXCEPT the MP3s, check that Gallery still works. Then add the tracks, perhaps 20 at a time, to try and isolate when the problem starts.

Do let me know what happens - this is interesting stuff!

I emailed nokia about this problem and they said the 6680 was only made to support 512mb cards, so they were absolutly no help at all.

I will try your method but.

isnt it about the amount of mp3's & the drain on the ram of the phone??sine the gallery looks for ALL mp3s so will take a long time & might if just hang if not enough ram to get them all

I think Nokia are talking rubbish on this one - 1GB cards are certainly supported by the firmware.

I presume other media players (e.g. OggPlay) work fine? maybe the workaround is just to steer clear of Gallery 8-)

I got it working! I think it may have been a problem with one of the mp3s, you need to shorten the filenames and the id3 tags or gallery wont work.

Thanks every1 for the help. We have proved that the 6680 can indeed handle a 1gb card (you can buy them online from ebay).
