Hello all, just bought a magnificent N70 second hand and it is locked to the Orange network.

Will getting the firmware upgraded to the latest GENERIC version get rid of the annoying orange-branded standby menu? Also if its got the generic firmware will it be unblocked to all networks?

Thanks in advance

Rich

Hi there just been sorting out the same problem, N70 locked to orange, and one locked to 3, annoying side bar all that stuff, spoke to an engineer this morning and was told a generic flash will reset the handset to factory settings i.e. sidebar gone , all orange/3 software gone, what you will have to do is back up any contacts on phone and also make sure all pictures, movies, music, ringtones etc are backed up to the memory card as the rest of the phone will be erased and reset!! wonderful eh, this also means you may have to get some settings resent to phone such as wap, sms etc but this should not be a problem, dont know how much will cost in your area but i have been quoted 15.00- a bargain if you ask me, hope this helps (",).
By the way what is your firmware version?? (press *#0000# phone will display it for you)

Note, however, that updating the firmware will not remove any operator-specific SIM-locks (restrictions).

In other words, if the phone is locked to Orange, it will still be locked to Orange after you update the firmware even if it is a generic/retail version, instead of Orange's variant.

For unlocking it, you should get the unlocking code from the operator.

Hi again guys just got my phone flashed to:
