Hi guys i have just returned from getting my N70 flashed to the latest generic firmware at a local repair centre, and am i smiling? of course i am, while i was there i took a friends N70 handset (woefully locked to orange and containing the worst side-bar i have ever seen!!!!) my handset (locked to 3 mobile) is now showing f/ware version
V 3.0546.2.3
18-11-05
RM-84
so i is a very happy camper and waiting to see the bug-fixes working (",)
but when the repair guy showed me my friends phone it still had a stand-by bar but across the top instead of the huge eyesore to the left of the screen!!
as you can imagine i was a bit concerned and 15.00 worse off!!.
luckily the repair guy showed me that the N70 has an active stand-by function which means you can actually choose to have an on screen annoyance instead of being forced into it by orange woo hoo!! cry all the people on orange.
Just thought there might be people suffering this iconic affliction requiring the knowledge it can be removed painlessly and quite cheaply as well.
(oh yeah his f/ware is now the same as mine)
laters guys enjoy orange free phoning (",)
I dont think orange would be happy especially if you need to get it repaired under warranty. So i guess orange owners will have to live with the homescreen which imo didnt bother me much when i had my n70.
Yea hammer they wouldnt😊
Got mine done anyway😎

if orange are so bothered by other peoples opinions why do they just put things on their phones that annoy the living daylights out of people and not give them an option to remove/disable these options???
Q. what are the main things which catch your eyes when looking at the N70 model?
A. its lovely little screen
Q. is this phone just a phone or is it a platform for people to express themselves and their particular choice of style?
A. it is a platform designed to be able to be enhanced and/or enriched with vibrant colours and designs not subdued by an over eager S.P. who wish to put their stamp all over things
lastly if it was meant to be there nokia would have designed it into the phone!!! OH YEAH they did and called it an active standby and gave us the users of the phone the option to disable if we wanted.
(i mean no offence to anyone these are honestly my opinions, thx for reading this post, and i also admire the people who spend so much time creating the themes for the symbian platform and make my phone look so groovy!!! (",)

😮 Ver 5 on an N70?!? Any feedback as to what version 5 firmware is like? Anymore bug fixes? Does the phone run much faster?
Cool to hear that ver 5 is out 😎
S.
Your sure you typed it correct? Version 5!!! Don't you mean version 3.

Look at the date stamp, 01-03-06, absolutely latest, V3 is 18-11-05.
Is this for real? Please confirm jacko, mebbe a screen shot to make it seem more real! I'm excited.
Just ought to say aswel, you cannot turn the Orange sidebar off by disabling active standby, the orange sidebar is permanently there on Orange variant firmware, the Active Standby on generic is, of course, optional.
Seb I can confirm the update,

thats what it says on the screen.but how the hell I get a screen shot up,beats me:con?
I also said it was an inside job and NOT available YET.It,s a trial.I,m trying it out.
I can also say that the N70 is still prone to white-outs😡
But the TT runs clean,no drops and gets me to the door.😊

You get whiteouts too? What network are you on?
help! I live out side of uk and a friend of mine managed to get my orange n70 unlocked. now i'm about to update the firmware using nokia sftware updater. but my other friend said if i update the firmware my n70 will be locked again bcoz it still has orange software. is it true? can one of u pros help me? thanks alot.
Change the phone's product code using NSS and then perform an update through NSU. You should have the latest firmware version that way (v5.0705.3.0.1 I believe) and it won't be branded to Orange.
Dunno if it will stay unlocked through. Can anyone confirm?
