I have the Nokia PC Suite (6.6.18) installed on my laptop (IBM Thinkpad r52, Windows XP Professional SP2) and it accesses my new N70 (firmware 3.0546.2.3) perfectly.
However, I cannot use the N70 as a BT modem with my laptop.
(Please, note that I have a Pocket PC PDA and I use the N70 as a BT modem for it without any problems.)
I have tried to evaluate this 2 ways.
First. Control Panel, Phone and Modem Options, Modem Bluetooth (COM 11), Properties, Query Modem, The Modem Failed to Respond. I used the Nokia N70 driver to create a new modem (that I installed on COM 9), but I only get the same result as above.
Second. Nokia PC Suite, Connect to the Internet. With any of the modems above, I get the same result: OneTouch Access could not connect with the selected device.
I phoned to my phone company tech support, but they could not help me. I will try to call Nokia phone support here, but I doubt I'll be lucky.
Any suggestions?
I don't know why it doesn't work as it should on your PC. but you could try with the latest PC Suite (6.7.22) from http://www.nokia.com/pcsuite
My laptop doesn't actually have PC Suite installed (my desktop does, where I do most of my sync/xfer'ing, etc). Anyway, I plugged in my BT dongle to my laptop, and it installed no problem (I am assuming your laptop has internal BT). Scanned for my phone and paired it successfully. Go to phone, properties, and search for additional services. It should show up something like Standard Modem over BT Link. This should be reflected in your Phone and Modem options as well as when you create a new dialup profile.
In your Network Connections, you might have something like Bluetooth Personal Network or something. Try disabling that.
Catchphrase,
Thank you very much. It was exactly that. Nobody could explain that to me.
All I had to do was open My Bluetooth Places, Find Bluetooth Devices, Discover Available Services for the N70, and then Connect Dial-up Networking by right-clicking on the Dial-up Networking applet icon.
The connection to the modem and on to the Internet worked perfectly.
From then on, I started to be able to use the Bluetooth Connection option on Network Connections, which simply didn't work before.
Also, the Internet connection through Nokia's PC Suite is also working now.
It seems this had to be somehow started as you stated, but it does not seems to be documented anywhere.
So, thank you again.
when i try to connect dial up networking on my N70 it asks for a user name and password, and what number to dial. when i try to dial i get "Error 651 - the modem has reported an error"
Any ideas? i can use the cable and use PC Suite's one touch connect and it works really well (I get 450k/s speeds on Optus 3G in Sydney) but i cant work out how to do the same thing using the Bluetooth connection. can anyone tell me what the user name should be? and the phone number to dial the BT connection to the phone?
thanks
