also why do all s60 v2 apps need to be recoded to work with s60 v3??:con?

Interesting to see the speculation about the N70 sucessor start generating interest. There's a few more Nseries as well I think.

The applications need to be recoded because the OS uses a different version of the ARM compiler. This is a one off change. The difference between Symbian 9 and Symbian 8 is bigger than most people realise. Comparable (perhaps even bigger) than 5 to 6.

so the catalog of apps that i have built up over the last 12 months wont work on the n80 & future devices

They won't, until the developers release new versions for S60 3rd Edition.
