My friend said that it may be the short of memory stick duo (16Mb) that caused the delay of its release.
The supply of Sony Memory Stick Duo can't catch up with the cellphone (p800)...so..that's why it is so late to be released...and other reason is its firmware of course....
What are you opinions on this, guys?
My opinion is that if someone from Sony phoned me and told me that he was bringing me round the p800 tomorrow morning, it would still be too long to wait!
They will loose the X-mas sales.
But for shure will make a nice figure at CEBIT next year. I did actualy played with the prototype at this year CEBIT.... Takes so looooOOOooong....
Just saw on BBC channel an Vodafone ad featuring P800 images from JamesBond Film.
Why are they showing this on BBC if the UK is supposed to be one of the latest countries to get it released?
they'll be showing that everywhere, but it's all for the film. :fadein:
But it was a Vodafone ad, not a film ad.
It also showed the Sharp (G-X10 ?) camera phone...
P.S. finger pen for P800?
I hope there will be less colourfull versions of this magicfinger stuff...
SE could include a couple (even if that meant increasing the price). At least they would save many people the trouble of searching for one. I think this is preferable to the protective film solution that reduces touchscreen sensibiliti/feedback but maybee I'm wrong because I have no experience on either solution.
MSDUO shortage? if that would be the cause for the delay SE could release P800 with a coupon for latter getting the missing card.
Oh...my~ finger things?? :-?
Its not that late really, what happend? The nokia 7650 hype is on the downside, the devices do sell but not like before a month or so.
The SPV is around the corner, unfortunately (NOT) it will be trown away by the p800 in the deepest darkest corner of the galaxy.
The downside,price.750 to 800 euros is a realistic price, but 900 to 1000,too much if you ask me.
Notify me if you give away the p800 to really poor people,ME. 😊

SONY ERICSSON P800
http://www.tiscali.co.uk/mobile/reviews/ericsson_p800.html
KEY FEATURES: Digital camera, Multimedia messaging, Extensive personal information management, Bluetooth wireless technology, GPRS high-speed, always-on Internet connection, JAVA enabled
VERDICT
The P800 is the first Sony Ericsson mobile to have a built in digital camera and full colour screen. A good looking phone with some very nice features that makes it a joy to synchronise with software like Outlook and Lotus notes. Multimedia Messages (MMS) in time will become as common as text but at the moment with limited users and a high subscription costs to the service, it maybe worth waiting till Christmas.
The review
Slowly but surly we are starting to see mobile phones that offer slightly more excitement that the next version of Snake. The Sony Ericsson P800 on paper looks like a phone that will pull the crowds of adoring fans. The keypad folds down to reveal a full 208 x 320 pixels colour touchscreen that can be used to view web pages and also as a view finder to help you take pictures with the built in colour camera.
MOBILE DEVELOPER
The launch of this advanced, open mobile phone shows the strong commitment of Sony Ericsson to building next generation mobile phones using Symbian OS.
The P800 has all the essentials you would expect. You can use a stylus to input to-do notes and synchronise appointments, tasks and contacts. The P800 also is equipped with GPRS, WAP, an instant Internet access button, e-mail and triple-band GSM, to keep you always connected.
The future
The P800 is based on the new Symbian operating system (OS). A key benefit for developers is the source code is being made available to help encourage new applications for mobiles.

The release is so late beacause SE decided to add a MD-duo slot and MP3 player to the phone, just before it was about to go into mass production. There needed to be written new software to support the MS-duo, and extra debugging... (At least, thats what I heard from most sources)
My sources still say "december" 😉 for the P800

Hmm...that makes sense 😊 Hope the final-version will be perfect!

Cool, some people already got their Phone+SDK kits! Anybody in here that got theirs? It also says that the phones are definitely upgradeable, so no stories about locking after 1 year no more :P

I've got one, and the latest Software version (early December) is really good.
And of course the phone's upgradeable - SonyEricsson has had that policy even for small phones such as the T68/T68i, as more or less the only vendor on the market for these types of products.
So it's unlikely, to say the least, that they wouldn't support that for an advanced PDA product, where all vendors offer upgrades (iPAQ, Palm etc).
