I think this is the beta Phase for P800.
That`s why some ppl put their hands on P800.
Nice indeed, shows very professional attitude(Also the price is for pro`s)
I t is the SONY hand here (E would have put it on the market 8 months ago)....
Nice, but Untoutch-able for one of us...
When you read the PDF it states 32MB of memory - with 12MB available.
best

Is'nt any one tempted to buy one, I know its a lot of money but if you wanted to get your hands one one first, if you buy it I wonder how long for delivery?
I will never, ever, pay so much money just to be able to develop something for SE...
They want some programs? Let me develop it for free. here's where nokia will crush them, many programers won't give 1000$ for C/C++ compiler when they can get it for free for other platforms.
I'm asking myself why did they choose CodeWarrior anyway? GCC works well.

I got a version of Codewarrior and an academic license for 190 dollars. Not bad value.
The reason why code warrior was chosen is that you need an IDE. No way around it. We should have gcc as well, and over the long term not releasing free-ware tools will harm SE, but if you're not developing commercially the academic license isn't bad value.
I 've been told that if you get a pre-commercial unit, you CANT upgarde it to the final software.
Is this true ??
*Izzo looks around for the cheque book*

😃
Guess the waiting phase is breathing it's last breaths! (in other words: Were finally not gonna hear "are we there yet" anymore!)
I'm seriously considering spending $1100 today :-?
I have to hide the Visa....quick 😃
I'm very tempted as well, but i have no developing experience, is there a steep learning curve? I want it so badly......
This news makes me worry about a real date of release. Look, its the last week of november and they are only releasing pre-production phones? When will buyers of this kit actually develop something and when will SE begin to make these phones for real?
I am really beginning to doubt that P800 will hit the market in this year anywhere in the world.

Hmm...It would be one of those pointless purchases for me too, I wouldn't even bother with the programming I just want the phone.
$1100 is a silly price to pay just for the phone, so I'm going to keep convincing myself I don't want one until they release it.
Well, Jizzo, you do get this really cool CodeWarrior t-shirt, and the official "CodeWarrior Wireless Development Kit for Symbian OS Suitcase", which is one of the coolest i've ever witnessed, i must say.......
Maybe you should reconsider....

Oh, and don't forget the multi-use tool for..... multiple purposes
Believe me I am tempted, but it's not that long until it is released.

Looks like this is an actual real P800 protype.
Currently $1,095 :-?
For the minimum bid required on these ebay auctions one can get a brand new prototype straight from ericsson.com + full SDK + tax deductable invoice.
So, why on earth would anyone buy from ebay at these prices ? roll
If you are buying the SDK+P800 bundle just because you cannot wait anylonger for the P800 but you don't need/plan to use the SDK part I will buy it from you.
My offer 150EUR
You can keep the T-shirt and the Suitcase (want to keep freight costs as low as possible), I just want the documentation, registration form and CDROMs with the SDK software.
My offer is valid only if the SDK is not yet registered in someone's name or if the licence terms allow you to change the registration to my name (must check with ericsson.com first).
Method of payment COD or cash in hand (if you happen to come to Lisbon)
Answer by private message on this forum please (don't want to post my job email address because of the spambots)
I pay for freight costs within EEC. Have no Credit card (too afraid of fraud to have one) and am not willing to pay for bank transfer fees.
P.S. You can keep the P800 also wink
I received an email from Ericsson support mobility world telling me that the Dev Kit will be available within 2/3 weeks.
By the way, I talked to a person at Ericsson mobility world in New York and she thinks that the P800 is going to be available everywhere in a few weeks. She said that she wouldn't be surprised if it is out before Christmas.
@ Afonso: I don't plan to use the SDK part and I will be happy to sell it once I receive it but not at EUR150...
I too have ordered this Dev. Kit ( for a corporate dev project) . I have just received notification from SonyEricsson via Digital River that it has been dispatched.FedEx tracking confirms this.
I work for a large imaging company and I am doing a project which will make use of the low res. images captured by the P800 ( I have been working with the 7650 and T68i + MCA20)
I will be happy to answer any P800 questions once I receive the phone. I have email from Ericsson Dev. and have been assured it will be possible to update the f/w and s/w within this Pre-Commercial release phone. 😃 😃
I am in New Zealand so the FedEx delivery will be sometime early next week.

EDIT in the photos of the SE documentation of the SDK one can read "...comercial version ... Christmas 2002" and the pre-commercial unit "upgradeable with final firmware".

Yeah, but about any more upgrades after the final one...?

Regarding the memory size discussed;
There is a 12 Mbyte User writeable filesystem in the device ( Disk C: ) , and 16 Mbytes of RAM. A Memory Stick DUO will appear to applications as drive D: and its capacity depends on the card inserted, the one that comes with the product is 16 Mbytes.
Has anybody in the UK ordered the dev kit and if I ordered it now chosing next day delivery, how long would it take.
