The very last stroke with 9500 - Help

Thanks to "superb" build quality of Nokia 9500 materials and great calculated lifetime parts - time we live in - one of my hinges, right one to be precise, simply broke ! The right hinge simply divided itself in two. I would understand if 9500 experienced some fall recently, but there is simply no reason for this.

This gave me great opportunity to examine what is now old case of 9500, simply embarrassing. But that is not the reason why I wrote this.

My introduction is simply result of my present saturation with Nokia as such.

So many problems with 9110 (more the five of them), 9210 (nightmare problems) and thought at least 9500 would give me some break. But alas, after barely one year passed, no more peace, no more.

After I've received my new 9500 with completely new mask and latest : V 05.22(01) 03-06-2005, RA-2, made me wish I never did so. My 9500 is in strange shape.

I went 3 times from my car back to service in 15 minutes after receiving my 9500. First there was no sound !

Speaker was dead, then they told me speaker was not
seating well, fine, I thought that is all , calm sea from now on. No such luck. Then I've returned again , because case was squeaking as if came from some old 9000 😞

After that, I've discovered that every time I've switched from speaker phone to phone's side, speaker "jumps" on (with sound click) as if verifying operation switch! You have no idea how this is irritating, makes me so angry.

Then, they told me that speaker is fine but that perhaps software perhaps succeeded not entirely and that this is some sort of bug. Also all my settings (my backup data and setups) on new system (sound settings) sounds less loud then before. Also I've noticed sound calibration levels are not accurate at all , only when I go to the last bar, sounds finally shapes louder, anything else , just mild if any change. This sound also comes after you take picture with camera, actually, this sound only appears when you Power On your phone side, but now, it happens each time.

They told me that on Nokia server in day or two it is expected ...some latest version (03) and that might remedy this sound problems.

Could anyone please confirm , that this is known bug within 5.22 version? Makes no sense to me.

This is not loud, just mild pop-up, but I don't want to hear this at all, I want my normal state back like with earlier version. What bothers me the most that allegedly original Nokia new case strikes me as lousier in quality then one my 9500 came in 😞

It squeaks at time, stranger firm/weak grip at times. Not sure what to do, this is my weakest point of ever been using 9x series.
Even with 4.51, I had faster response between functions, if I go in control panel,it can take for about 5-7 seconds. If I check memory, it wont go back , unless I let him count the size !

I'll quote another user amitabhbansal from pdaphone forums, because this is the same state with me :

amitabhbansal wrote:Friends, I am facing a problem, whenever i reboot the device by removing the battery and inserting it, the Desk ask me to enter DATE AND TIME. But before 5.22 with 4.51 firmware, whenever i reboot it, it never asked me to enter the DATE AND TIME. So what's the matter with it. Is it normal? Please reply soon. Thanks

I'm thinking to never again , ever, use this brand.

Nobody criticized over the years Nokia 9x hinges more then me,myself , 9x user from the first 9x baby 😞

Since 9000, always wonder why such vital area has such a fragile treatment considering frequent usage of open/close fashion we create infinitely over hours,days,months... sad times indeed. Quality be just an empty declaration.

A lot of your problems seem related to rogue system files, such as you'd get by restoring a 4.44 system onto a newly flashed 5.22 unit.

Can you confirm the faults are still there even after removing your MMC and after reformatting the internal disk? In other words, let's eliminate software from the equation.

The speed and sound problems, in particular, do sound very likely to be software. I had similar problems after restoring my 4.44 backup on top of 5.22.

See my article here for rebuilding your system on top of 5.22.

Does this help?

Exactly, you've made a good points.

Indeed I wanted to format and check how machine behaves without backup Data. There was just problem of practicality , no time sadly. Will try to do this tonight an let you know. Thanks for your swift note.

Also read another burden and this be not from a soft side.

But this is not all !

Lest I be not thought guilty of postponing my further praise of glorious Nokia. Today I discovered why this new case actually creates squeaks upon opening.

Examine the picture :

The highlighted side of mask actually becomes open more the rest of the mask !!

Thus creating a tension for the case while opening and exactly the spot where squeaking is created. This area is so soft and "flexible in the worst sense of the word.

I simply can't quite grasp how this entire mask is work of dilettante. If this is not overpriced product, I'm not quite sure what is it !

What bothers me the most is the fact that there is no firming connection to that side, it just is what it is, one complete mask , venerable and connected as complete frame.

I think I should request a new mask ,because there is just now rational way to make it any firmer, certainly not on a few days old mask. This so miserable and makes me love Nokia even further.

I would love to hear from other users, how many of you can examine this on your own 9500 ?

Steve,

All done... backup/format = same.

I had no problem with any application, only slightly slower response at times (not all the time) sound pop is here to stay sadly. Nothing improved in that department.

Could it be that speaker was damaged (I don't know how?) while board was placed to new case? Because it wouldn't work at first at all.

But besides this pops, mild on/off switch sound - as when you turn your phone side ON, the same sound - and lousy linear calibration of sound level progress, sound is not distorted or damaged at all, it is precise and clear.

I wonder if I purchase another speaker (easiest remedy ) would that take care this problem. Just noticed when recharging, this pops steals that classic verifying sound as well. This is not the most horrible thing, but I really want this to go away.

Interesting, after format, all my backup was returned but for some reason, not the SMS and Contacts ! Then after second attempt they were back, but, for some reason last 2 days SMS were gone as well as latest contacts. Then after third time everything was back. Also I couldn't select (for some reason) individual categories to backup to phone (?)

Beside OPL, ICQ, ZX and C64 emulator I really have nothing else but personal data on my 9500. Not very found of Symbian (loved Geos) so i rather use Palm for programs. Wi-Fi, and business splendor is all I need from 9500. So even without suggested recommendation you provided I had no problems with my applications.

If only I could get rid of this boring on/off click sound, that would end as my only problem.

Right side of the screen plastic is moving slightly away from the screen, and this is what makes this squeak (some times) I'm certain I had not this problem with case with earlier case. Nightmare

You don't say whether, with the internal disk formatted, the speed problem remains - I'm guessing this is fixed? But I'm a bit worried by you saying 'your backup was returned'. You don't want your rogue system files to be restored, they might be causing the problem.....

Anyway, it sounds like you have other, hardware, issues that need addressing!

Yes, but everything works fine, machine is expedient without any problems. Beside this pop , no problems.

When you mention speed problem...

After the format, when 9500 was without any personal data or programs, I've tried sound and sadly format made no benefit or remedy of this irritating pop.

That is why I decide to restore data, tried to select only a personal data, but Suite (?) wouldn't allow me to untag others.

Stirring the water is not so bad sometimes.

My calls to Nokia care and service made some progress.

Another (new) case will embrace my 9500 next week.

I’ve also learned dust is very unfriendly to this internal speaker so this might be the reason.

At least I know that my screen will fit as it should be, hope speaker issue would be resolved as well.

Note to other users of 9500, please for your own sake, examine your screen side of the mask, and examine is your case also slightly moving from the screen while you are opening the 9500 all the way.

This is very important , because, this way it makes serious tension to the right hinge and we all know this is the one that breaks the most. Clearly not without reason. Make sure your screen side plastic is even upon opening to maintain longer life to your hinges and to keep smile on your face. At least from hardware's side of 9500
