Does anyone know, or can take a good guess if it's possible to attach a keybord like those portable foldable ones for the palm devices?
like the kyocera 7135 phone can?
thanx!

If could, then what the touchscreen is used for? Playing games? 😃
Ever noticed the touchscreens on palms or pocketpcs? Wonder why they sell so many keyboards for those devices, perhaps because it's much faster than text-recognition / onscreen-keyboard?
I know..but P800 with attaching a keyboard? That's too much. Nokia 6800 is ok..so is 9210.
How about a foldable bluetooth keyboard? That would be the sort of gadget I'm really looking for. Not only small, but you can also use it with any BT-enabled device with fitting drivers and aren't bound to a proprietary port.
Actually,i think that thats the one thing that p800 is missing, keyboard.
The bluetooth idea was mentioned before,in the 7650 forum, maybe someone is working on it righ now. 😊
BT kbd would be terrific... ...only that P800 does not support the necessary BT profile for working with it HID (Human Interface Device) (
If you search for HID support/compliance on BT's SIG (Special Interest Group) page of approved devices you will find almost none.
Even WinCE4.0 with build-in BT support will not support HID profile.
I was hopping to upgrade my PC kbd to microsoft's new BT keyboard and mouse and use italso to input some text on P800 but it seams this will not work.
I feel that keyboard is not really necessary since its touch screen though it is better to have one. Anyway i think i read in the Whitepaper that the writing recognition is much more better then any other PDA out there.
But if SE does not come out with a keyboard, you might consider for the SE chatpen.

You cant compare touch screen and a keyboard, writing recognition might be better but its still need more time (a lot) to replace a regular QWERTY
keyboard.
On SE P800 web page does nothing appear about Keyboard.
I like anyhoe the Radio tunner wich is a Ericsson device afterall.
The Keyboard appeared also at Ericsson (by the time I got the R320S) and I thik prior to Palm Keyboard some of you are thinking.
I guess the sales on Ericsson keyboard were not a blast, that`s why it is not present for P800.
To be optimistic, the Technology is In Da House, so if the users requires it, we (or users) will have it.
That,s it Grand Ma` 8)
Wow, just like to say thank you for everybodys input.
I do hope the writing recognition is good, but then again on reflection,
as i've read you cannot edit simple word documents, a keyboard would be
a useless addition.....
So, we can only hope you CAN edit documents.
Thanx! 😃

Well, i do agree with you that it takes more time but i feel that SE idea is to make everything compact, like the digital cam, memory duo etc... so they would want to build this device without much extra accessories, which bascially all of us wanted, the smart phone.
But you don't have to buy a keyboard and you don't have to take it everywhere you go. A keyboard could make the P800 a serious laptop-replacement, much like Palm-pdas and the Stowaway.
Well, Sony Ericsson has the Chatboard (product name: CHA-01). It is a thumb board which connects to all latest mobile phones from Ericsson.
If you look for it on the accessories page of the Sony Ericsson web site you can get a full description.
I think the plug is the same one used in the P800, therefore I think that this Chatboard could eventually be used on the P800.
So, the product is there, let us hope that Ericsson provided support for it in the P800...
Regards.
I think the chatboard was meant for standup use, holding the chatboard with both hands and the mobile hanging in the air from the connector.
I think the P800 is just to heavy for that kind of usage, the connector would deform/break in no time.
For siting use I think something like this would be just perfect

Looks great! I'd but that for my p800!
Wish I had a p800 😞
Anybody want to ditch their's?

What about the virtual keyboard??I remembered it has been mentioned at http://infosync.no/
"Pocketop is also considering producing drivers for mobile phones based on the Symbian operating system"
http//news.zdnet.co.uk/story/0,,t284-s2122596,00.html
http//www.pocketop.net/index-flash.shtml
Review http//www.foxpop.ndirect.co.uk/eclectica/pocketop.htm
And here http//www.bluelogic.co.kr/english/keyboard.htm you can find "Bluetooth keyboard Adapter for Foldable PDA keyboard" but again the P800 lacks the essential HID BT profile and, without the possibility to EDIT word/excel documents, on the P800 the keyboard would be used mostly(/only) with email...
I am hoping that some future BT VGA PDA supports the necessary BT-HID profile for using a BT keyboard.
This would be my killer combination of devices a carry always BT camphone/smartphone (SEP800/Motorola Paragon/?) + BT stereo headphone (http//www.openbrain.co.kr/e_site/e_products/e_products03.htm) + mass storage VGA BT PDA/Subnotebook (Sharp Zaurus C700/Sony U1) + BT GPS (Emtac) + BT foldable keyboard (?) + BT hires digital camera/camcorder (Sony FX707/PC220)
BT on all devices give a tremendous configuration flexibility of usage
On partys I would take only the P800
On bycicle/foot I would take the P800 + BT stereo headphone + BT GPS
On car/vacation I would also take the highres camera + VGA PDA (decent GPS car navigation & Web browsing)
On ...
For me a many-device-solution instead of a do-it-all device also alow for phased upgrading of each of the components and gives me some backup/redundancy in case of malfunction of one of them. If they all used identical/interchangeble batery modules that would be just great (but this is getting close to stratosferic dreaming now wink )
Unfortunatly BT is having big interoperability problems and its most advanced/recent profiles are very rarely/poorly supported/implemented.
Too much bt,feeling bt sick 😊
Isn't it possible to write software to make the p800 support the BT-HID profile? Or a firmware upgrade maybe?
In some profiles Firmware upgrade does not solve the question because the profile specification demands low latency (fast response) time or large memory buffers (image/video profiles).
Altough the P800 seems to be both a fast *machine* and also have a considerable amount of memory if the multitasking of the Operating System is of a preemptive nature (take the CPU away from a task forcefully after a certain limited amount of time) and does not contemplate for diferent task priorities this can make the implemntations of certain low-level/hardware-oriented BT profiles virtualy impossible (maybe this is why WinCE4.0 is not going to support BT-HID neither ?).
On a device capable of video steaming without hickups and high-bit-rate MP3 playback there should be no major obstacles to this *feat*.
The bigest problem being that Symbian7.0 has been designed on the infancy of BT and long before HID & BIP (Basic Image Profile for image interchange with digital cameras).
Besides lacking HID & BIP profiles unfortunatly P800 also lacks the File-Server/client profiles making it hard to take advantage of such nice gadgets as the cigaret-packet sized 5GB BT file server from Toshiba.
A P800 with the BT profile colection of the SiemensLOOX and a non proprietary SD(IO) memory slot would be THE kill-em-all device (oh yes and FREE devel tools ofcourse).
Maybee Motorola Paragon ? I will ugrade from P800 to the Paragon just to get rid of the proprietary memory slot or to have a richer BT profile set.

When you say hard, do you mean hard or impossible??? I'd love a p800 combined with the HopBit......
Before hopes are arisien, i think it's first best we see if it's worth thinking about a keyboard if you cant write a simple word doc. Lets wait untill SE decide to be smart and include this very, very simple, but major facet.
It has everything else, it's basicly a full blown powerfull PDA, why not!?
unless im wrong with this information, and you can wite word docs... :-?

I thought it had a viewer, not an editor :-?
Thats what i mean, - can look, but no touch...then keyboard solutions are
then pointless..... 😞
All we can do is hope SE make docs editable!!
*crossing fingers*
