7650 with widcomm, always assign com 0 ???

23 replies · 4,076 views · Started 24 November 2002

Every time I try to make a serial connection with my 7650 with widcomm, it makes an attempt to connect via com port 0, wich I never assigned in the first place. I want com 4 or anything else... but no matter how much I configure the settings for com 4, its always com 0. Com 0 doesn't exist, does it? My router doesnt see it. Help me!!!

Defenn... Its absolutely normal for it to try to connect it thru Serial Port 0. It also says the connection could not be established. But dont u worry about it. since, if u check your PC Suit, you will have connected via port 4 or 5. Even otherwise, you can use BT directly without PC Suit.

😃

sanjay2405, thanks for your post. You were right about it saying the connection could not be established, but in checking my pc suite router, I can never be connected to any ports. Is there any other way I can connect to use my pc suite???

I've done all you said with no avail, and don't know what to do anymore. I have emailed Widcomm so I hope they have some answers for me. I might email Nokia aswell. Must be something with the sotware because even though this is my first experience with bluetooth, it shouldn't be so hard. I know my PC and my bluetooth are talking with each other, because I can pair them on the 7650, but when I try a serial connection, rubbish. The thing that gets me is that why can I so easily make a Fax connection but not a serial?

try to see the bluetooth configuration and see the local service then u can see there what port ur computer using for the bt serial port

or

maybe try to tick com 4 and com 5 then wait a couple of secs

cos i usually must tick 4 and 5 to be able to connect

Defenn...

If u dont mind me asking, what exactly do u need the serial port connection working, and be displayed? Because, it only says it is not connected thru PORT 0 but, it otherwise connected, and you can pretty much do everything else ( file transfers ).

From ur PM i understand that u are able to pair the devices. So, there u are. Everything is fine.

Is the problem only with connecting ( or rather not connecting ) the pc suit?

Finally... which OS are u on the pc? XP?

a question

how do i disconnect my phone from the pc after i connect it via pc suite

if i untick the port 5 on the mrouter yes it says disconnected but on the phone the icon stil " (( 0 )) " it shows that theere is still an active connection

how how how ??

No. You dont have to disturb the PC suit.

Just disconnect from the phone. (and yes.. if u turn BT on again on the phone, it will NOT reconnect by itself Unless u make the connection)

😃

is there any way to disconnect from the pc ??

if i turn off the bt on the phone it says there is an active connection and is it ok to just disconnect it

i want a proper way to disconnect the thing 😃 😃

like in a dial up connection there is a disconnect button 😃 😃

Yes. It is absolutely safe. The reason u may find an active connection is, the pc suit is constantly trying to keep the connection current. ( every 3 - 4 secs) is all

😃

ahh thx for the info

cos i'm just a bit worried with this BT on 7650

some people hav a bt problem right ?? with the bt unable to start or something like that

and what makes me much worried is when i set bt on my friend's phone with his pc and then his BT is unable to start but then i restart his phone and it back to normal again

huh i dunno what should i do if i damaged my friends phone 😮 😮 😮

It is most unlikely you could have done any damage just by settings.
Does he have to boot his phone everytime he wants to connect? 😮

Let us know more symptoms, and error messages if any. May be one of us will be able to sort it.

😃

this is what i do, open up mrouter, then i uncheck and check serial port3, then serial port 4 gets connected after a few seconds.

then i open up pcsuite and everything works.

it's like by doing the above, you refresh the connection or sumfink.

hope this helps

I am trying to get a serial connection so that I can use the PC Suite... its the only way I can transfer files. Isnt it?

Ofcourse Not!! If transfering files is ur only requirement for the moment, you dont even need PC Suit. Nor do you have to worry about the serial connection (it will do by itself).

To transfer files to phone, just turn on ur BT connection on your Phone. On the pc, just right click on any file u want to send, then send to > Bluetooth. You should receive this file as a message on your phone. As simple as that.

Hope that helps.

PS: You did not mention your OS ( since XP seems to be having problems connecting with PC Suit)

i haven the same problem as defenn.

and i use my 7650 as phonebook, calender etc. and wan't to sync it whit my outlook2000 it worked a few days ago before trying to install the "acceptother" string by the new version of TECOM's software after the update i only can send files from pc -> nokia to the public folder.
i searched the register for this "com-port"keys all changed to com4 for local and com5 the otherone. and still it only connects to com0 reinstalling the widdcomm software that came with the device didn't work.

before it seems if the serial connection wasn't closed the way it has to be it won't connect again till restarting my comp.

on my laptop same story after firsttime install of BT connecting to com0

sorry for my bad english (normaly speak dutch 😉 )

widdcomm gives the next messeges

maby some one can give more info now?

shall reinstalling my win2k system help ??? but then i'm not finished at the end of the year 😉

thnx in advance

i get that same thing also, but u don't have to worry, as long as ur device is paired (with the picture of the phone) you can transfer files to ur phone, just drag a file to the directory "public folder".

u don't need to try and connect to the serial port icon.

trust me, it should work.

I have the exact same problem as willum (xp is my OS), but I am happy to report I have been able to send files as '555' sugested. By dragging and dropping the desired file onto my Public Folder. It seems to work as 555 said by creating a ftp connection and once finished, there it is as a message. Its all very exciting... But it still anoys me that I cannot start my PC suite becuase of this serial connection problem I am having as 'willum' has so perfectly illustrated. Can anyone give us an answer on what or where the problem lays?

i found this thread by stot, and ive done this, i sync my phone and pc, may be this could help your problem 8)

Assuming all software is installed.

1) Open mRouter from your systray and tick BT COM 4 ( can tick all COM 3 - 6 if you want to be sure )

2) Open the BT explorer from the systray

3) Explore to Entire Bluetooth Neighbourhood then click on your device in the Folders part. You will get a list of the services available for your phone in the Icon area of the BT explorer.

4) Double click the Bluetooth Serial Port icon. Wait for the OK box and click it ( it says COM0 but will be set to COM4 as standard ) You may now get an error about disconnecting, just OK it.

5) Click on the 'My Device' icon in the Folders part of the window

6) Wait about 10 seconds and watch the Bluetooth Serial Port icon in the Icon part of the BT explorer.

7) If the Icon has changed to a new icon with a green connector and green arrows Close the BT explorer and run PC Suite. If not, Repeat from Step 3.

This always works for me until I explore BT again or close the connection from the phone. Sometimes it takes 2 goes but never more than 3 or 4.

Thanks everyone for your help... I got it working, finally. What mjsee's thread mentions actually works.

😃 :P :P 😃

Yup,

msjee's post actually gives me a pared connection. To bad the PC Suite doesnt work well on windows xp. Whenever i try to run it goes all fine untill I come to the picture part. Whenever i hit the picture button (afbeeldingsoverdracht in dutch, dunno what it is in english), it just hangs. When i view my taskmanager ecfmserv runs at 95% of system resources.

But, when I have no connection to the phone and startup the PC Suite then, it doesnt do that 😞

So i am not able to send the pictures from my phone to the pc, am i?

Hope nokia has a fix for this soon!
